Found it! The song "Ocapella" is featured on Van Dyke's May 1972 release, "Discover America." That's the version that was played on the progressive LA radio stations I was listening to back then.

Got to chat briefly with Chris Hillman a few years ago after doing the photos at his show with Herb Petersen and brought along my original program from the only Flying Burritos show I attended, at Fillmore East. He looked it over and remarked how he had never seen one before. Then instead of signing it on the page that featured the Burritos, he turned it over and signed almost illegibly, on an ad on the back cover.

Sister lovers/water brothers is from Robert Heinlein's 'Strangers In A Strange Land' sci-fi novel. There's also a Crosby song with that title. The Byrds only got as far as an instrumental track but Blackburn & Snow recorded a full version for a Verve single.
