Avatar 8:17pm

So this Loons tune reminds me that I liked don't fear the reaper, bought the album and was so disappointed by the rest of it. It should all have sounded like this.

THIS song La Poupee.... I heard it in an Italian restaurant in Times Square. But an Italian version. Some Goombah was playing it!
On a cassette.
  8:22pm
Mike Sin:

That was quite a surprise to find out sometime in the ‘90s that the Birds gave that song a try in the mid-‘60s.
  8:22pm
Domenico:

The guy acted like it was a popular song where he came from, everyone knows it!
  8:23pm
Domenico:

I thought it was very Beau Brummels

Avatar 8:26pm
Creature Boy:

It was revealed on Toddophonic Ts show & his interview w Chris Hillman that the Beau Brummelstones were an influence on the Byrds ! Surprising BUT it makes total sense
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27pm
Glynis GirlGroupGirl:

Todd, if you say it, it must be so! Todd has spoken!
Avatar 8:27pm

Oh...speak of the devil

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27pm
Glynis GirlGroupGirl:

Daisy! We used to live just down the way from Dupont Circle!
Avatar 8:28pm
Creature Boy:

Wait, is Toddo the Devil 🤘?
  8:28pm
Domenico:

The Searchers were actually an influence on both Beau Brummels and The Byrds. That's how it all went down. Beau Brummels first release precedes The Byrds by a few months. Jackie DeShannon wrote for The Searchers and was helping the Byrds out in '64
Avatar 8:28pm
Todd-o-phonic Todd:

@Creature Boy: Yes, indeed...I guess a lot of us didn't realize that The Beau Brummels were slightly ahead of The Byrds...when you weren't there it all seems to have happened at the same time.
  8:29pm
Andres:

Eric, thankfully as memory worsens I have fewer of those laments :)
  8:29pm
Domenico:

Hello, Todd-o-Phonic!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:29pm

Oh you did Glynis!?! Nice! I had no idea... Did you guys meet in these parts?

Love this fountain of youth!
Avatar 8:29pm

It was hearing the Searchers that convinced us that Liverpool was happening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30pm
Glynis GirlGroupGirl:

Daisy, we met through my fanzine. I’m from Toronto.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31pm
Daisy:

Thats so cool Glynis
Avatar 8:31pm
Eric R:

This feels like a particularly excellent Whig Out.
Avatar 8:31pm
Todd-o-phonic Todd:

Howdy @Domenico!
Avatar 8:32pm
Creature Boy:

Yeah the Brummelstones have that initial Beatlemania quality and famously were mistaken for British but aLsO had a folk rock element . They walk this dynamic line between frivolous & fantastic
Avatar 8:33pm
Eric R:

The Beau Brummels did a spectacular lip sync of don't talk to strangers on shivaree
  8:35pm
Richard Whig:

@Eric that BB clip is an all tyme fave!!
Avatar 8:36pm
Creature Boy:

& then theres the whole sly stone thing and his role as the BBs producer

  8:41pm
