Avatar 1:31pm
redkayak:

Happy Monday all!
  1:36pm
Dean:

Ralph Peterson?! No! Too, too young.

I think the Peter Gabriel Security tour might have been the last time I caught him live. If it was the tour for the prior album, then he played a lot of the material that would appear on Security. Anyway, we drove down to San Diego to hear him, then later to Berkeley (all from LA at the time). Because I'd seen him in San Diego, I knew when he would leave the stage and enter the audience via an aisle at back of the venue. At that point we left our seats and walked to the lobby where, indeed, he was poised to walk down the aisle. I shouted, "I love you, Peter Gabriel." Very adolescent of me, despite the fact that I was then a young adult.
  1:38pm
headcleaner:

it's adolescent, but I do it all the time
  1:39pm
headcleaner:

though usually I say "we" rather than "I"
  1:40pm
headcleaner:

but it's the truth so why not say it?
  1:40pm
Dean:

Now I live in Berkeley, and when I was taking my daughter to school here pre-pandemic I would routinely drive past the house where I stayed with friends in '82 or thereabouts to hear the concert.
  1:42pm
Dean:

Another Gabriel/Berkeley nexus story: I work(ed, i.e., pre-pandemic) more or less across the street from the Greek Theater. One day I realized Gabriel was due to appear there that very night. I notified a buddy of mine in LA who has amassed a huge collection of, uhm, live recordings of m-a-n-y bands, including Gabriel. About a week later a package with a CDR arrived in the mail. It was the show from the Greek.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm
Irene Trudel:

Welcome Rick, L.O.T, erdkayak and Dean! Sorry to hear about Ralph.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm
Irene Trudel:

Dean, I saw Peter Gabriel a few times, the best being at The PNC Arts Center in NJ. Truly transcendent. Some good stories there and so sweet about that CDR!

  1:57pm
headcleaner:

appreciate the BA imagery, dean - haven't been back there since... about when I used to listen to PG a lot
  2:00pm
Dean:

On the trek to San Diego we got a flat tire. Consequently, we missed the opening act, a stand-up comedian. I believe the comedian was followed by a band before Gabriel's appearance. Was it Jules & the Polar Bears? Or Random Hold?

Thanks cronbat! Summer and Michael and Sylvia, East River Pipe is Fred Cornog, who put out some really amazing pop tunes in the 90's and 2000's. He's been a bit quiet lately to my knowledge, which is a shame.

Hey there Irene, Glad to be here this afternoon after your first set.. Looks as if I've missed some fantastic music so far, but will check the archive later on to be sure! Thanks to you and Peter for the wonderful, bittersweet tribute to Chick Corea a couple of weeks ago. Was great hearing the very first Return To Forever electric band with Stanley Clarke, Lenny White, and my guitar teacher and friend of many years, Bill Connors, who played on the "Hymn of the Seventh Galaxy" LP. Bill stayed with the band for about a year, until moving on, though he made a brief return for some performances during the Return To Forever reunion tour in 2009. As Bill said many years ago:"Chick was my hero. I wanted to be Chick Corea on guitar." Sail on Mr. Corea!! 🙏🏼
