Favoriting Acid Jazz Hands with Bronwyn Bishop: Playlist from July 9, 2021 Favoriting

Bronwyn Bishop's avatar View Bronwyn Bishop's profile Favoriting

Musical theater from off the beaten path. Obscure and unusual show tunes from within the canon and without, flops, failures, and the newest works from up-and-coming artists—plus tried-and-true hits. Also, occasional appearances from songs that are not show tunes (but only if they go really well with show tunes).

Here you are! Right before my very ears.

Here we are again with hits and flops. I'll play the flop; you play the hit, BB. I'm pretty sure I can manage that part.

Hi Bronwyn and Theatre Fans!

Quick hi, catch the show in the archives. Going to the movies, in a real, live movie theater, in a mall (Menlo Park). Feel like I've done this before...(Summer of Soul).
Great weekend all!

Did I ever send you a picture of the little stickers you could optionally put on the piano roll of A Chorus Line's Dance 10 Looks 3? The Piano roll equivalent of a bleep!

@doctorj, hope you survived your oral surgery this morning.

Bronwyn Bishop:

Hi Gregory and Henry (and have fun doctorjazz!!)
Avatar 7:24pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

@Henry: that is so cute...and of course the reason it's called Dance 10 Looks 3 instead of the more logical Tits & Ass is because they weren't allowed to call it that lol

Listener Gregory:

Everyone's enjoying 1600 PA Avenue! You can hear the audience. So it must be a hit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:29pm
Webhamster Henry:

"Rated X" hahaha. I haven't seen any piano rolls from "Oh, Calcutta!" or "Let My People Com" , popular as the were.
Avatar 🎭 7:29pm

Hear those cheers? Hit!

Lotta words in that First Lady tune.

The cast learned them so we don't have to.

There's nothing floppy about Slim& Slam.

LG, my dentist sent me to the oral surgery, told me I needed a bone graft in order to get an implant. The oral surgeon said, Na, plenty of bone, no need. I think that was the outcome I prefer (not sure...)
Avatar 7:36pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

but there WAS something floppy about jerry lewis's 1976 revival of hellzapoppin!

@doctorj, good news! Don't question it too carefully.

BTW, Bronwyn, your voice levels are awfully high. But your pronunciation of Gaillard matches what I've always heard.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:39pm

You can always check pronunciation with The Old Codger.

Annie was another feather in Goodspeed Opera House' hat.

I have a definite memory of having seen Ain't Misbehavin', but I can't tell if it's real or maybe a PBS broadcast (?) or just playing the cast album over and over. But in my memory it was truly great.

Okay, now this week Brownwyn is blowing out my speakers when she speaks because I have to blast these to hear any of the music . :(

But then what do you call the inevitable movie?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:02pm

For those of you reading along, it's page 136 in Not Since Carrie.

You won't be prepared when they make a musical of "Cannonball Run". You'll just lose the plot.

See Boogie Nights for Burt and great ensemble work. I don't know why my mind is in the gutter tonight. A tasteful gutter, maybe, but nonetheless a gutter.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:07pm
TonyR:

Burt plays well with others.
Avatar 🎭 8:08pm
Listener Gregory:

I think Burt was popular from Smokey & The Bandit and other car-related films. But a very good movie from the 70s or 80s was Deliverance.
