Mike Sin:

There have been some intermittent problems with all of WFMU streams this week. Troubleshooting is happening as we type. That said, I've been listening using the pop-up and I have had no problems. That said, this version of "Summer in the City" -- are you playing a stereo version? If so, it sounds like one channel (probably left) is being reproduced in both channels.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm
Funky16Corners:

Hey Mike! It is a stereo mix, playing in stereo (from all indicators on this end)
  3:54pm
Moog1 Radio:

Back to MONO!

Are you picking up both channels of this one?

This one sounds right...
Avatar 3:55pm

Agreed Moog1. Mix the stereo files to mono.

I think it might be a phasing issue which happens with internet streams.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm
Funky16Corners:

That sucks...
  3:57pm
CalZone!:

Mystery seemed to sound right. Summer in the city sounded like Sebastian singing with a Zither ;) In actually kind of enjoying the low finess.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm
Mike Sin:

Yes -- it sounds like one stereo channel is being broadcast on both channels or the signal is being knocked out of phase.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm

Hell of an operation we have going...

Peter Kastner died in 2008. But at that point he hadn't made a movie since 1984. What happened to is indeed a question worth pondering.
"You're a Big Boy Now" is a strange but appealing movie with a great score (and a great cast).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm
Candy-O'67:

Maybe so, Larry. I'm listening from my laptop. I just go to wfmu.org and then click on the stream on the left side where the streams are listed. Same when I listen from my phone. I like that better than the app cause I can see the playlists and chats easily there when live. When I listen to the archives, then I listen in the pop-up player and pull up the archived playlist if I'm on my computer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm
Funky16Corners:

@Peter K - I have a vague memory of Kastner having some tragic event in his life/family that derailed him. I always enjoyed him as an actor.

Hello Larry. Loved the early singles. That is all we heard over here. Magic, Darling, Did You Ever, Nice, all gems.
  4:16pm
Peter K.:

P.S.: "Revelation" is not a "largely" Sebastian-less album. It's an ENTIRELY Sebastian-less album. In fact, I'm not even sure Steve Boone or Jerry Yester are on it. It's basically a Joe Butler solo album, probably released as the Spoonful because the group owned Kama Sutra one more record.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm
Irene Trudel:

Larry, back to the channel drop-out. I was in my car at the time listening from my Android phone, so I couldn't check on multiple devices. Now that I'm back, I was able to check against a CD. The right channel was out. I'd be interested in hearing the archive later to see if it was the browser or the device. Oh, and Hi Doug!

BTW This is a really nice pop/jazz album, should you ever see it in the bins.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm
Irene Trudel:

Those Lovin' Spoonful mixes were definitely hard-panned on some instruments and vocals. Like on "Darlin' Be Home Soon"-- nothing came out of the speakers till the vocal. Hit me on email later if you want to try some troubleshooting.
  4:22pm
Peter K.:

Sebastian had definitely left the group before "Revelation" was released, but perhaps they had a left-over track with him on it. He sure isn't pictured or mentioned anywhere on the cover or back cover. For what it's worth, Wikipedia lists the personnel as only Butler, Boone and Yester. But Wikipedia is not always right, as we all know!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm
Mike Sin:

One issue to remember -- and I'm not saying this is the case -- but when software updates, some of the brands default to mono. For example, when Adobe Audition updates, it resets the input to mono (left channels on both channels). One has to manually reset it.

Hi! Sitting and listening on Main Street, Great Barrington, Ma. I went to a record store here while the ladies went shopping in Lenox. Coincidentally, one of the LPs I got was a very cheap (the owner actually just threw it in with my other purchases) copy of Best of the Lovin' Spoonful.
