@Amanda, I have a lot of experience with them hear in Maryland. And I miss them so. I would pick them up off our car tires and walk around with them and put them on trees. We had, um, a lot in our neighborhood.

The overwhelming number of cicadas emerging at once is protective. ... But the 13- and 17-year recurrence of cicada emergences may be an even savvier strategy. Both 13 and 17 are prime numbers, meaning they're divisible only by 1 and themselves.

  6:43am
Morgan from Philly:

anyway i think that every summer august drone is katydids. i looked that up very early in life because my brother used to tell me it was power lines in the neighborhood overheating

Hi Key, yippie, LWR, Nuno! I am going to stop greeting people after this, but please know that you and your animals are all very welcome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:46am

Cats are crepuscular, which means they're most active at dawn and dusk.

Do Spotted Lanternflies make a sound ??? (other than the crunching sound when people stomp them).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:49am

I'm sure other spotted lanternflies can hear them just fine!

@LastWhiteRhino, I don't think so. I checked the wikipedia for the species and there's nothing in the entry for noise, sound, or communication.

@Morgan from Philly: Katydids are heard at night.
"Katy did, katy-did, katy-did..."
  6:54am
Cooh John:

Up with all the animals.
  6:55am
Nuno Marcal:

People also ask
Do prime numbers help cicadas survive?
By cycling at a large prime number, cicadas minimize the chance that some bird or other predator can make a living off them. The emergence of a 17-year cicada species, for example, would sync with its five-year predator only every (5 multiplied by 17) 85 years.

The Frog
BY HILAIRE BELLOC
Be kind and tender to the Frog,
And do not call him names,
As ‘Slimy skin,’ or ‘Polly-wog,’
Or likewise ‘Ugly James,’
Or ‘Gape-a-grin,’ or ‘Toad-gone-wrong,’
Or ‘Billy Bandy-knees’:
The Frog is justly sensitive
To epithets like these.
No animal will more repay
A treatment kind and fair;
At least so lonely people say
Who keep a frog (and, by the way,
They are extremely rare).

I'm Nobody! Who are you? (260)
Emily Dickinson - 1830-1886

I'm Nobody! Who are you?
Are you – Nobody – too?
Then there's a pair of us!
Don't tell! they'd advertise – you know!

How dreary – to be – Somebody!
How public – like a Frog –
To tell one's name – the livelong June –
To an admiring Bog!
