Julie, you like Julian Cope's music very much I presume? On a recent "vinyl-hunting domestic tourism excursion" (SIC) I found 'My Nation Underground' plus two The Teardrop Explodes' lp's ('Wilder' & 'Everybody wants to shag The Teardrop Explodes') for rather reasonable prices. Soooo good stuff! And I think your show has had its influence on me getting these records. So, thanks!

I am a total novice, but my fave is that naughty-named Teardrop Explodes lp, released 1990, and it is hard to believe it was not recorded then but in 1980 & 1982, very much ahead of its time. Then again in that same pile of records I bought was also This Heat's debut (ORIGINAL PRESSING!! sorry for shouting) and that it is rather ahead of its time, timeless, what have you.

I can only say it is about time I started looking into Julian Cope's work, I mean it's been 35 years when I heard 'Trampolene' on the radio as a wee 10-year old and after that.... nothing (except some tracks played on this show) until now.

I am of an age that NeoPsychedelia hit me square in the plexus - being factually Psychedelicised - & maturing into discovering what was left of Punk @ the same time. Cope & the TeardropExplodes however had nowhere near the distribution that brought even the Bunnymen & PsychedelicFurs to me in smalltown North NewEngland of the time. Cope in fact is kind of an archetype of being the willful Pop Star School Drop Out - & an icon of Indie publishing. So ...my 80s now is not my 80s in the 80s. Then Cope as Archdrude had his headheritage website - before Streaming & Social Media really kicked in. In that period - Cope was super relevant to some of us as Musician, Rawk Critic (he could indeed legit be just that!) - & yes Philosopher. As hyped as I am, tho' - there's no way I've kept up with all his releases after a certain point...

Gotta appreciate J. Cope for enthusing about Scott Walker up to the point where he compiled a best of at a time (1981) when "most people" dismissed Scott Walker's solo work as cheesy MOR (people like David Bowie and Eno and Mark Almond and others did not of course but...)

Odd - as I cannot hear Scott without thinking Cope. & Kevin Ayers made me wonder what Cope thot about him, the second I heard him ! (Finally.) But - I believe sometime after exclaiming Scott's 'godlike genius' - Cope actually went off him. I think perhaps Cope thot there was more there conceptually & some plan that he didn't actualy find. That doesn't bother me one bit about Walker, however. The sound & sensibility are quite enuff.

'PostRawk' is like 'PostModern'. Defining something still by something else. How can something be more current than Now ? But putting Grammar aside - it's actually quite descriptive. Anyhow PostRawk is still actually Rawk - but a bit complex & noisy ? Often instrumental ? I was talking PowerPop about TheHollies & someone asked me where the Power was... So OK I use GittarPop for some of it... But just GittarRawk with melodic PopSong elements & sometimes Harmonies. Some overlap with NewWave often - but not entirely... Townshend coined the term in 1966, actually...

In 1982, this US-based company Communications Satellite Corporation wrote a series of letters to the band's management saying that "the word Comsat was a registered trade mark in America and that the group had no authority to use the name."[9] The name Comsat Angels was actually taken from a short story written by J.G. Ballard.[10] As a result of the threatened lawsuit, the band was forced to perform and release their records in the US under the name "the C.S. Angels."[11] The band also performed once in Sheffield, England in 1987 under the name "the Headhunters."[12]
