I saw Yes at Miami University in concert supporting this album. At the end of the concert the stage lighting slowly descended and revealed itself to be some sort of starship. Each band member played a protracted solo over Starship Trooper and ascended a ramp into the ship. And then the ramp closed and the ship took off.

Zinn The Mood:

90125 is one of the few times a monumental band from the previous decades did something good in the 80’s. That decade ruined so many artists, who succumbed to the over-processing over-production of that reactionary era of political conservatism.

That said, the previous two Yes albums are extremely overlooked (Drama, Tormato). And the extraordinary thing about that magnificent band was the lineup changes for each of those records. Only Chris Squire and Alan White played on each of them. Drama was the first time an outside singer sung lead; and then again on 90125, Anderson sharing lead on some songs with Rabin.

There’s also Sandy Nurse, who’s doing some righteous things today, heh…twitter.com... She’s the third person on the city council now who I can think of who was a frequent attendee of Occupy Wall St (Jumanee Williams and the guy from Wash Hts whose name escapes me now). Oh wait, there’s also Julie Salazar, maybe a couple of others. But Salazar is a state rep though, isn’t she?

Digging the stuff, Pseu.

@Tom yeah, Howe is there, but not the big one. Then Tony Kaye comes back for the big one, after leaving the band ten years before. For keyboards it was Wakeman, then Geoff Downes, then Kaye. Wild that they had so many lineup changes but managed to retain that Yes essence. Trevor Horn’s singing and melodies on Drama areeerily right in there with Anderson’s.

@drr I’m so aghast too that there’s any nostalgia at all for that decade. The very worst pop music (chart stuff), fashion, politics, pop culture, popular movies, etc. Nationalistic and over the top capitalist bullshit. The Gordon Gekko decade. Where’s my eight ball and cigar?

And I graduated college in the 80’s like Woods. But looking back most of that stuff that was “on the radio” and played over and over in MTV just doesn’t stand up.

The low point of 80's music for me was Starship singing "We Built This City (on Rock and Roll". SO bad. Especially since they wrote "Jane" just a few years prior.....But c'mon the Talking Heads hit it big in the 80s'. And so did The Knack! (or was that 1979??). And King Crimson did Discipline in 1982. Some GREAT music in the 80's.
Whenever ANYBODY tells me "they don't make good music like the 60's or 70's I say just tune into WFMU For a couple days and you will find all the new good music you need!

Very late 80’s. And definitely aren’t at all what people think of when they think of “the 80’s.” That being Wham, Ohil Collins, Kenny Loggins, Whitney Houston, Bruce Hornsby, Bob Jovi, Peter Cetera, ugh…god, I’m getting nauseous.

La’s were never played on radio here. That crap above was.

Once heard Sandy Denny and The Strawbs sing "Tell Me What You See in Me" on WFMU. So good.

In the 80s I was really excited when R.E.M. arrived, it seemed so *not* of the zeitgeist, but it eventually caught up to them too.

The future appreciation and praising of '80s music has nothing to do with us old-as-hell fukks who lived through it.

LPs from the 1960s litter my house from top to bottom, and I think I have maybe one memory from the '60s involving my diaper.

I often think of the 1980s, pretty much all of it, as the Day the world turned day-glo

1984. I enjoyed Rockinging, Purple Rain, New Sensations, Let It Be (Replacements), Body and Soul, FRankie Goes to Hollywood, Talk Show, Double Nickels...and a bunch more. Was there crap? Sure, there _always_ is.

I managed to sleep through the whole show today. That's not meant as a negative comment. Every time I half-woke-up, I half-said, "I love that song!".

The eighties were a bummer in many ways, but I met many good friends in the eighties, and I helped make my first child in the eighties, so those were good things.

I'm fully in agreement that there was good music and stuff happening in the 80s. I just think it's funny that people have nostalgia for the decade itself. I don't think it's based on real memories of the time. It might be that younger people have seen John Hughes movies and think it was really like that.
