Whewwww.
I saw Cave/Bad Seeds there some years back on a different unclaimed ticker. Price was only half that! Was great tho, glad I went.

And Fred, Yeah, No. I lied. But I feel it the next day a lot more, as it were.

Threemoons 🌛🌕🌜:

@Creamo did you see them when Blixa Bargeld was still with them?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm
Handy Haversack:

We saw with the Bad Seeds at Barclays in 2018, which was fantastic. These seats are 19 rows from the stage. My friend wanted to splurge. Creamo, there are definite discounts for JF*E fans, if you're interested. (This is Nick Cave and Warren Ellis, not the full Bad Seeds.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm

@Handy: I balked on spending about that to see Cynthia Loemij, and I regret it now. Too late though
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm

I think Columbia got the RCA Mark II room sized synthesizer up and running by 1958. Though they may not have had a proper academic program up and running until later.
Avatar 3:36pm
Niall:

U of I Champaign had and still has a robust electronic music department. And it's where HAL came from. ;)
Avatar 3:36pm
Creamo Coyl:

I think maybe the distinction is that it was an entire school or department devoted to it.
I wouldn't wanna argue with a placard!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm
karlward:

That RCA Mark II is a beautiful thing to behold. I have been in the presence.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm
tim from washington:

@karlward - the U of I claims it is. Columbia-Prnceton was established the same year so who knows. Having lived in Champaign, IL for 12 years I learned that the U of I has a "we're a big school but we're not appreciated because we're in the sticks" inferiority complex. Dubious claims of "first" and "biggest" abound

@karlward: Aye, it is! And the ignominious story of its abandonment by RCA is fascinating, in itself.
Avatar 3:40pm

IIRC, the feeder machine for punch cards was poorly designed and buggy as hell, and RCA eventually washed their hands of it and told Columbia to get bent. Prats!

While I lived in Champaign I unfortunately never crossed paths with anyone who was part of the experimental music school. I think I might have been pretty far removed from the academic side of things. I came in to electronic music through rock'n'roll.
