We didn't realize how good we had it! I was doing some child care, and the kids shows on now are awful. I used played re-runs on OG Sesame Street & Mr. Rogers, and told the Kid the TV was broken.

"Bubble Guppies." As near as I could figure, it was a show that taught kids how they needed to go shopping for clothes. (Which was the plot of most episodes, for some reason.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12pm

@Austin: I can't help but think of the band Bubble Puppy who had the underground hit, Hot Smoke & Sassafras.

Frank Oz came into the record store I worked at in the 80s. I heard his voice before I saw him. I was so dumbfounded that I couldn't speak. I didn't normally get that way with anyone else I encountered. This was entirely different.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 8:28pm
Austin Rich:

It would be hard to not recognize Frank Oz by his voice.

Ken Kesey came into my old bookstore in the early 90's, and I didn't recognize him until I asked for ID, as he was paying with a check. (Our policy then was to check ID.) Then I felt a little silly.
Avatar 👻 8:29pm

Which of his characters did he sound like, Krys?

I was like that when Gary Owens came into a record store. I recognized his voice from across the room before I saw him.

Hi, David in California! Sorry...finishing up cooking. Like Krys said, "PBS was funky". A main source of entertainment being a latchkey kid.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 8:34pm
Austin Rich:

In my defense (re: Mr. Kesey), while I worked in a bookstore, I don't think I'd ever seen what he looked like. And he seemed amused that some kid who was no more than 20 didn't immediately recognize him, and then started getting excited.

He was a local in Eugene, so I think I was the last to meet him in person.
Avatar 8:35pm
HyperDose:

What's cookin, Pauly?
