The thing that I keep thinking about is the timing of all of this (overturning Miranda Rights warnings, expanding gun rights, overturning Roe v Wade) all in one week while the Jan. 6th Committee hearings are going on, and right around Father's Day and Juneteenth. coela - you may have seen me reference Barbara Eherenreich's 'Dancing In the Streets' with its pocket history of how & why both Christianity & Islam got highjacked by Fundamentalists & Militants...

@Zest Hard agree. Left and right are two sides of the same coin. Hoping society will wake up and smell the capitalism so we can burn it all down and start over with more diverse and inclusive leadership. And I mean "burn it down" in the most literal sense possible. Second time's a charm 🔥

Yeah burning it down is not going to help. The old ideas of "smash the State" no longer apply. Small communities based on mutual support are good.

Careful to not live too far off the grid. Heaven forbid you don't pay those utilities! But get an electric car to save the environment. Hmmm...

Zest sounds too Libertarian to me. That's been highjacked to get RightWingers in the back door too massively in this time. One thing I like about Socialism is it recognizes Society. Not some fantasy of solipsistic self-reliance in a simpler world that doesn't exist. The freedom of your fist always ends @ the tip of my nose. & the water & the air & the fields are shared by all...

'The problem is that we all too often have socialism for the rich and rugged free enterprise capitalism for the poor.'
-Martin Luther King Jr.
Well the USA is a large complex thing with many elements & qualities. I agree however that it is some kind of Crypto-Oligarchy. Which means Money Rules (along with some other adjacent powers). This does not indicate an overly Socialist society with equity of wealth however. It indicates unbridled predatory Capitalism.

Whoa whoa whoa, Zest. With all due respect, Pluto hasn't been a planet since August 24th, 2006. Please use the socially correct term Neptunocracy 😋

The above interaction is why I remain apolitical. Speaking as an Afro-Latino minority, we seriously don't care about any of this. Just trying to nudge white people in the right direction so maybe they'll start to clean up their mess. Extremism and tribalism are the real threat to democracy. Always have been.
