Very interesting band Hino put together for this record. Doesn't appear to every been released in the USA.

@WR: did it work?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:50pm
WR:

NGH, not sure what you are talking about? The Herbert Huncke talk? I bumped into that on UBOOB today today when looking for Elke Sommer. Getting out into the world? Yesterday I did my first excursion in a long time, went to Coney Island. Week day afternoon so the train wasn't very crowded. I had an errand that required me to be on the F train, so decided after errand was complete, to ride to the end of the line and get some fresh air and sun. Just reading about newest C-19 wave, so thinking that if I avoided it yesterday that will continue to shelter in place (home).

@WR: getting back into the world. I'm attempting to get out of my cloistered existence and hit brooklyn in the late fall, now i seem to have my full health back (and then some).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:01pm
WR:

Great to hear that your health issues are resolved. I'm not a good barometer regarding getting back into the world, paranoid pessimist that I am.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:13pm

Hutcherson on vibes and Moncur on trombone are so highly featured on Destination Out that I came away from it when I first heard it in the 70s wondering what Jackie McLean sounds like.
Avatar 8:15pm
northguineahills:

@WR: I remember feeling the same when I first picked it up, and of course I already knew what Moncur and Hutcherson sounded like....(of course, I first heard it in the 2000s)

Sorry I'm late! I was out watching some deviance, and it was not very satisfying. I thought, "I used to do these things in junior high school... how are they even deviant nowadays??" Then I remembered where the real deviance was and went home to hear part of the show.

David, I'm looking at the box set of the Rolling Thunder Revue, and I don't see David Blue in the credits. There's a David Mansfield. Could he have taken Blue as a stage name?
Avatar 8:45pm
Observations:

He's in the movie, Renaldo & Clara, playing pinball, perhaps he didn't play live? I can't remember the details off the top of my head. The pinball scene is on YT

Yeah, it seems that Mansfield is not Blue. Perhaps the concerts Blue played in didn't get onto the released recordings for some reason. Of course, the credits can't be wrong!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52pm
WR:

The eremite reissue page for Blue's Stories says it sold only 2000 copies. Several of my friends had one. Didn't realize it did so poorly.

Yes, I remember hearing some Hino back in the day, but didn't remember anything like this Mahavishnu Brew.
Avatar 9:17pm
Listener Gregory:

Hey hey hey, Dr. J!
David, did you place this or a similar Hino piece recently? Or maybe it was Jeff G. In both cases, I had the same reaction, of wondering what Miles record this was and then being surprised at the playlist.

Gregory - If memory serves, I played this once on a previous radio station, but not here. so probably not me.

Got to see The Microscopic Septet this past Sunday (nice little town, LG), Dave Sewelson on Baritone Sax. 2 sets, they were great (have tickets to their last show at Smalls NYC this Thursday night). Dave even sang a tune each set.

Excellent, @doctorj. I'm glad you enjoyed it. That band is really good; I don't think I've ever heard them live, but I love their records.

David, have you been purchasing direct from wewantsound (via bandcamp)? I bought several CDs from them in November of 2020 and it took over 4 months for them to arrive. wewantsounds were very responsive to my inquiries when the CDs had not shown up after 3 months. Just wondering if you experienced such long delivery times?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38pm
coelacanth∅:

hi zzz hello rw
Avatar 9:39pm
Observations:

I have not had any problems. I think everything (vinyl) from them I got via Forced Exposure. For Machine I just have digital files I got direct from the label.
Avatar 9:45pm
Listener Gregory:

@doctorj, I was in an alleged record store last week, and they had a sign saying "All LPs in this section $29 and under!!" That was when I realized I no longer understand this world. (For the 43rd time.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50pm
doctorjazz:

@LG, it's indeed crazy-been buying vinyl whenever possible up until now, but starting to think CDs or digital files are the way to go. Not that I don't still love LPs, but at triple (or more) cost of the digital versions, it gets less and less cost effective.

I thought I could find who else was playing that earlier Hino piece, and I haven't been able to. Now I must withdraw from the world and live in a cave, in silent meditation. Please drop heels of bread and the occasional CD at the cave mouth from time to time.
