I think the newer scholarly history of the Alamo illustrates a lot about modern-day Texas, ie, a lot of Anglo soldiers ran away, they all should have really left before certain defeat, and they were fighting, in part, to defend slavery and race laws. And Davy Crockett surrendered--he didn't die in battle. But it was all "whitewashed" so to speak
