Favoriting Acid Jazz Hands with Bronwyn Bishop: Playlist from December 30, 2022 Favoriting

Bronwyn Bishop's avatar View Bronwyn Bishop's profile Favoriting

Musical theater from off the beaten path. Obscure and unusual show tunes from within the canon and without, flops, failures, and the newest works from up-and-coming artists—plus tried-and-true hits. Also, occasional appearances from songs that are not show tunes (but only if they go really well with show tunes).

Maybe it's a little early in the game,

Bronwyn plays loosey-goosey with the "show tune" definition.
Of course, writing a 5 minute musical that features that tune would let it qualify.

That key change would throw some jazz players at first (when they started listening to Beatles and similar), key changes were always a part of music, but there was a definite way to connect them through bridging chords. The sudden changes to barely related keys was jarring to them at first, then very appealing.

It is worth checking out the 1979 BBC miniseries of Tinker, Tailor, which gives much more background on the characters and therefore is more comprehensible. One of the great TV adaptations, with Alec Guinness knocking it out of the park as Smiley. IMHO!
