Coincidentally, earlier tonight a friend told me about a 2017 documentary film she watched recently about survivors from the liberation of Auschwitz that immigrated to America, including one that became a successful clothes designer in Los Angeles in the 1960s. To put this radio broadcast into context, Auschwitz was liberated on January 27, 1945. So the troops definitely needed some cheering up.

hi Sally!
thanks rich i was just wondering where the live audience came in. it very much sounds like it was performed before the audience - as opposed to without the audience, then the recording played to it. (them)

Thanks so much for that Dick T—I came in late & as I was trying to figure out what exactly I was hearing it hit me as a missing link in the evolution of American surrealist comedy. I can totally trace the path from this to the Firesign Theater and SNL decades later, to name the first two that I thought of.

Yes, RevRab, Bob & Ray are easier to hear in Firesign, but now that you mention it I can hear some Amos & Andy in their DNA too
