View John Allen's profile |
"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

Records stored in friend’s basement, thought they were secure. Until someone came by and lifted them all. I’d already replaced most of them on CD, being in the music industry then. And I had kept some with me, thankfully. But the mass were taken.
Still feel a gaping hole about my original records. Most of which I can remember where I bought them…slowly replacing many of them. But much of the core classic hard rock stuff is now absurdly overpriced for yuppies looking to improve their standing with their stockbroker buddies.

Comedians responsibility is to hold up a mirror to culture. Each of those completely shredded vacuous American consumer culture, the status quo and all social mores.

“Rocks” may the single best hard rock album of the 70’s. The grooves are smoking, there’s a serious element of sultry danger and dark funk, swaggering and careening out of control.
Between “Nobody’s Fault” and “Back In the Saddle” and “Lick And a Promise” (Joe Perry’s “Combination”!) it’s a high point in hard rock canon, seeped in drug-fueled, careening funk and sway.
They were never better than there.
