The Radio Is Broken is a three-hour spelunk through the canyons and fissures of humanity's collective unconscious. It sounds as if a field recording of the Culture Industry were a sonic juggernaut barreling down a rickety track—except that tunnel ahead is just painted onto a sheer cliff wall. With occasional forays into what might pass for "normal" music. Prerequisite journey: Cratedigger's Lung

But yeah, if you've ever seen real live improv sketch comedy in action, you know how anemic these television shows can be by comparison.

I can't bear the medium. Television and film are mistakes in my world.
@Robm: Please read what I write. I am not a fan of Zappa, meaning I don't collect his work. But I love this early stuff, and I am a HUGE fan of Crusin' with Ruben & the Jets, among other occasional works of his. I'm just not inclined to plumb his work, when I still have so many other artists whose complete output I want to know.
coelacanth∅:
i think uncle meat is the best album.
absolutely free is also excellent, despite how juvenile it is. (and no no, not *because of*!)

i don't remember the order of departures from the cast but by the early 80s it wasn't worth watching AT ALL. not even reaching the 5% good mark that i was to give Howard Stern a few decades later.
i know this because every weekend i'd try to convince the crew to not turn the tv on and every weekend they'd say "i know it's not funny any more, but..." and turn it on.

Another artist I generally do not like: Laswell. Saw Fantômas (I think...) at Victo one year. Dreadful.

This is why I decline to use the Kenzo-created techno functions for tying threads together. I believe the onus is on us (see what I did there?) to communicate clearly and not leave it to techno tools.
