Ever since I watched One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, way too young as a kid, I became part of the Brad Dourif fan club (intense early impressions). I am particularly impressed with the unusual film WISE BLOOD (1979).
- John Huston turns out an instant culty gem with that one. It’s just so darn odd. I think it still works. Yet perhaps not for everybody.
Harry Dean Stanton turns in a beauty of perf as well !
Amy Wright, creates an indelible impression via her role. ‘Fun Fact’: She is Rip Torn’s widow !

A Rare Fassbinder Sci-Fi motif !
It has a stunning visual look to it (for on the cheap!). For me, its a good companion piece to Tarkovsky's "Solaris" & Kubrick type films. I love a good Psychotronic terrestrial mind F*#k !

knowing you appreciate Fassbinder, its a Must ! Unlike anything else he did.The film i wanna see the most now is his "Chinese Roulette" 1976. Pretty wild. I read via wiki that Andrew Sarris based/taught an entire university film course on that One film !

re Stanislaw Lem's "Solaris" on film, its totally different, (& not as brillaint as Tarkovsky's version) but the S.Soderbergh version with G.Clooney isn't all that bad. It's too short and would benefit from a longer story arc in order to make a bit more sense. Seemed to be too edited-down to a mere shell of its enigmatic self.

I need to read more Stanislaw Lem. I only read one, but it was very funny and very scifi and very russian. I loved it.

I think you had to have lived under the Soviet regime to really appreciate the nuance of Tartokovsky's Solaris. It takes stones to attempt a remake of it

I was reading a copy of Solaris I found from a flea market...in one of the pages I found a passport photo of a random old man, probably used as a bookmark by the previous owner. It was very eerie...given the context of the story of Solaris

that is eerie, reminds me of something that happened to me. i bought a small book of photos of berlin before and shortly after wwii. there were photos of ruined statues of historic german figures taken off their plinths and stored in random groups. i took a trip to berlin and one day was wandering around near potsdamer platz ans went down an alley way and there were all the un mounted statues that were in the book

Lem's writing and any film made from it requires an audience that understands the meaning is below the surface. Existential impossibility...this planet we're on and the 'reality' we're orbiting is where everything becomes....uncertain...these days, you get Guardians of the Galaxy, and maybe some CBD gummies
