The tracheotomy connection is that Ray was at least partly inspired to write Waterloo Sunset by his lengthy hospitalization as a teen.

Yes. He protested one of the Miss America pageants because the contestants were modeling in fur coats.

Such a moving song. Am I right that it's a rare expression of brotherly love?

Yes, Bob B. (the other one) was a major animal rights advocate.

My public library had a copy of Kink Kronikles, which was my deep introduction to the band. Probably as good a starting point as any.

Thank God "little brother" Kink, DAVE DAVIES, left us "Strangers," a magnificent song. It has been covered a number of times and used in television and film productions. Ray wasn't the only super-talent in this band!

Whenever I think of Dedicated Follower, I think of the scene in “In The Name of the Father” where Daniel Day-Lewis is strutting down the street.

The quality of material this band produced in six years is staggering

SUCH a treasure trove was Kronikles, not to mention the following year’s Great Lost Kinks Album. And henceforth almost every archival release was referred to as “The Great Lost…”

I can remember reading rock critic John Mendelssohn's review of "Kink Kronikles" in Rollng Stone and running out to buy it so I could hear all those "lost" tracks he raved about.

When Ray Davies got shot in New Orleans years ago, the Howard Stern like program on Q1043 hosted by Leslie “The Radio Chick” Gold did a spoof by doing “You Really Shot Me” (boom) (boom). Classless but funny at the same time.

I worked on an English TV commercial for some kind of ice cream bar. They got The Kinks to re-record Apeman as a jingle for the product. It was looped constantly on the set. The director was David Bailey, the photographer who documented Swinging London in the 1960's. He had malaria during the shoot, and was seriously ill. Of all the horrible/hilarious commercials I worked on, this one really took the cake.
