Franco Twinkie:

My history with The Troubadour started on a rainy night in 1973. A passel of kids from school and I went to see John Mark/Johnny Almond, who had an FM radio semi-hit with The City. Of course we smoked a ton of weed, so I burned my mouth on a cup of boiling coffee. When the opening act, Johnathan Edwards was playing his anti-
war hit Sunshine, I was looking at the floor and having a miserable time.

Hey there Matt, Welcome!
Avatar 10:57pm
Mr Fab:

by the time I was old enough to go to clubs, the troubadour was the home of hair metal. Avoided that place like the plague. I was quite shocked when I learned about its long storied history years later.
Avatar 11:04pm
Bob Barth:

↳ Mr Fab @10:57
See & that really interests me because thats a period of the Troubadour you never hear about. I always associated that scene with the Whiskey & The Roxy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07pm
Franco Twinkie:

↳ Mr Fab @10:57
I never went there in those years, but in 1979 my girlfriend and I went to The Troubadour to see The Cramps, The Go-Go's and Levi and The Rockats. It was Brians 20's birthday and Lux shouted "This ones for you birthday boy!" from the stage.

It was still at least half a year before he joined the band and changed his name to Kid Congo.
Avatar 11:08pm
Mr Fab:

The whiskey and the Roxy were both quite punk/new wave until the hair metal thing just started to take over, like a creeping vine. Same with my spot in the San Fernando Valley, the Country Club - one night it would be the Ramones, the replacements, whatever, the next night it would be, like, Great White, ratt, etc. Two scenes battling it out for rock ‘n’ roll supremacy!
