Were you usually in range of the transmitter back in those days, or did you have to arrange the antenna in tricky ways to get decent reception? I know those in Manhattan and Brooklyn had trouble receiving FMU with its lower wattage.

It was a total SHIT SHOW trying to tune in. When I lived in my Grandmothers house in River Edge I could tune it in in certain rooms. Bergen county. But in WARREN COUNTY near NEWTON? GOOD LUCK!!! VERY SPOTTY. Thank God for the internet.

Julie you must run, not walk, and listen to Discipline, it is their BEST 80's album. It introduced me to King Crimson. There is nothing like it, yet it is VERY 80's. PROMISE YOURSELF to listen to it, there is a GAP in your King Crimson portfolio.

From what I've seen in media of the time?? I believe they had a sort of metal wind-up voice telegraphy machine that people used, and an 'operator' named 'Ernestine' who would listen in on you. But I don't know if that's considered a "phone", since you can't ask it to look stuff up, and have Zuck listen in to you...
