You better have a stereo system worthy of playing these UHQR pressings or your $150 investment might go to waste. They are obviously not aiming at a mass market with these releases. Seems like "Feelin'Good" has turned out to be the song that has cemented the collaboration of Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley in the minds of musicians and their audiences. So many versions of this great tune. My favorite rendering is Nina Simone's. As a freshman in college I saw "Roar of the Greasepaint...." in Philadelphia(twice!) in late 1964. The show was prepping for Broadway. Got to meet Newley and wife Joan Collins, along with the great Cyril Ritchard(and his standard poodle) in the alleyway behind the theater as they made their way to dinner on a rainy evening. Autographs were collected.

The only thing better than a tangent is a thin trivial tangent.
My only Cyril note other than recalling his Captain Hook TV gig: When I was a teenage stage crew apprentice in a dinner theater, the director and cast of Bells Are Ringing thought the lyrics for Drop That Name should be updated with more current and relatable names. They paired/rhymed Cyril Ritchard with George Peppard. Wish I could remember the other revisions.

Nice remembrance, still b/p! Ritchard was the ultimate Captain Hook. Mary Martin incomparable as Peter Pan, of course.

Hello Bob & groovers.

You could carbon date this one from early Beatles influence.

I heard this version after I heard it by The Band (which is a killer version), but this one is great as well!

I've always thought that the early Beatles were a girl group. This is Motown reclaiming the influence.

(Have to hand it to The Band, though, to be able to do a cover of a Marvin Gaye tune that stands up!)

Plus Biff Rose. Bowie did a note-for-note cover of Buzz the Fuzz before he recorded Fill Your Heart.

I think the term is artist-proof (theater people talk about actor-proof plays). But Bowie and Jagger's version might change your mind.

BOB, the word you were looking for in regard to cover versions of "Dancin' in the Street" is "bulletproof." Hard to ruin such a great tune!

BOB, hard to listen to all these great MOTOWN singles without thinking of those great back-up musicians, the FUNK BROTHERS, that were an essential part of the label's sound. Right up there with LA's WRECKING CREW!

Levi Stubbs and the Four Tops were always my favorite MOTOWN band. And Levi lent his voice to the film version of " LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS" as the man-eating plant from Outer Space!
