Feel compelled at this moment to say: not that anyone's asking for advice, but I moved, with much excitement, to Canada just after GWB's second election, and then, together with every single one of my many expat friends, spent the next nearly two decades trying (successful at last recently) to get back to the US. There's plenty to like about Canada but imho it is not an "escape route," and even though I am no Trumper I would not move back there for love or money. If anyone wants to hear about the fantasy v. the reality, you will find me a willing bloviator.
