I found a cheap hardcover edition of Vol 1 in a local bookstore; it covers up to the end of Mott. I'll get to Vol 2 someday, I'm sure, but I have a pretty big stack to get through. I'm a little compulsive with the music and film books, especially when I see them in the wild and cheap.

I've been thinking about this a lot lately, in the context of the fires specifically. Of course our loved ones are more important than anything else, but stuff, in a sense, is almost underrated. For those of us who care about historical preservation, I think we're very conscious that stuff (objects, art, buildings, etc.) is designed to outlive humans — stuff can be both ephemeral and immortal. It's meant to be bequeathed. And for those of us who are collectors, and for whom so much of our identity is wrapped up in those collections, its loss is devastating and disorienting on a personal level. Anyway, I love you LA.

I've been thinking about this a lot lately, in the context of the fires specifically. Of course our loved ones are more important than anything else, but stuff, in a sense, is almost underrated. For those of us who care about historical preservation, I think we're very conscious that stuff (objects, art, buildings, etc.) is designed to outlive humans — stuff can be both ephemeral and immortal. It's meant to be bequeathed. And for those of us who are collectors, and for whom so much of our identity is wrapped up in those collections, its loss is devastating and disorienting on a personal level. Anyway, I love you LA.
