The actual main experience of the website, ie rating music and reading reviews is great, and the users make lists that can be great for discovering music. The forums are pretty lame but it’s pretty easy to never step foot in them. The website does have a good amount of blind spots though and I’ve noticed WFMU djs play loads of stuff that’s never been rated on there

I use bandcamp bc my understanding at least is that that's the route that delivers the most dough to the artists. I also use it to follow artists and labels, for new releases. intrigued by "Campus Bell Tone", I looked up the lyrics. Here's Google Translate's take on them:

There are bells ringing in the distance. Ding-dong, ding-dong. They float gently through my lonely heart. They are so familiar and kind. They remind me of my old friends. They have been in my dreams. They are the bells in my childhood school. Who can forget the friendship in school? There are bells ringing in the distance. Ding-dong, ding-dong. They float gently through my lonely heart. They are so familiar and kind. They remind me of my old friends. They have been in my dreams. They are the bells in my childhood school. Who can forget the friendship in school? The WFMU phone apps have features for listening to any program from the archives and you can mark favorites and pre-download for playing. Haven't used the new iphone app but for the android app it works ok, to see the song list you have to have at least some internet connection. But there is no way to make your own playlist. And I don't think WFMU could get away with allowing that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46pm
Ike:

↳ wimpy @9:34
I'm too much of a cheapskate to get unlimited cellular data, so I mostly just download WFMU archives and listen to those on the go instead of streaming Spotify or whatever. And also some downloaded MP3s and such. Hot tip: Save gigantic wads of cash by switching to a dirt-cheap cell provider like MobileX (which is on the Verizon network), Ultra Mobile (on T-Mobile's net), US Mobile, H2O, etc. and maybe pledge the money you've saved to FMU!

I switched from H2O to the even cheaper MobileX recently and so far it seems like it lets me stream a bit of WFMU *live* over cellular data every day without charging me!
