Merrily We Roll Along is a mish-mash of high energy lunacy, reverence, and irreverence for forgotten pop stars, love for Saturday morning cartoons, and exploration of the side of Bandcamp where I seem to be the only one purchasing. Bringing to you the odd and the upbeat from a growing collection of pre-rock novelties, classic and neo-Vaudeville, jug bands, polka, klezmer, and more at the convenient hour of 8-9 AM EST, Merrily We Roll Along starts the day off with a little light-hearted musical tomfoolery cut with an occasional comedy sketch. It's organic, free-range, cheese with the occasional onion thrown in.

Hello Dr Lee.

5 year old me seems to know this Popeyes record.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:10am
MHLee:

Mae Questel is on the album but I don't see anyone else credited for voices.
Avatar 8:18am
Mr Fab:

I think the Bran Flakes sampled that "hamburger dream" line.

Sorry Mic was hot there, I had to turn up that track

Golden Records did that sort of thing a lot but this isn't them and golden records had actual voice actors this time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31am
MHLee:

Tho there is an alternative popeye theme on beware of the blog which was produced by golden records... cheap cash grab probably

MHLee:

Mitch Mitchell was the house band on golden records
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:33am
MHLee:

It's also crazy ever song on this album starts with a sad version of the popeye theme. I don't think you'd ever listen to it again all the way thru.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:39am
MHLee:

They didn't cheap out on studio effects
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42am

↳ Song: "Strike Me Pink Do I See Red" by "Captain Paul and...

Yes, the sounds effects were plentiful, all production values good, but the tie to Popeye cartoons was weak.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 8:50am
WR:

↳ Song: "Now Let's Popeye" by "Leroy Jones"
nice, know the Eddie Bo recording but this one is new to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52am

I think they just played the songs published in 1936 because they were out there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52am
MHLee:

Popeye seems to have been quite big in the late 50s
Avatar 8:53am
Mr Fab:

So when the Beastie Boys sang "I can do the Popeye, and The Jerry Lewis", they were talking about a real dance. Something I Learned Today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:54am
MHLee:

↳ Mr Fab @8:53
It's mentioned in the land of 1000 dances too
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 8:55am
WR:

↳ Song: "Pop-eye" by "Huey "Piano" Smith and The Clowns"
The chorus call outs by The Clowns making me home sick for New Orleans.
Avatar 8:56am
Mr Fab:

↳ Song: "Silly Tunes" by "The Stone Country Band"
that album cover - Moe from the 3 Stooges as Frankenstein...or vice versa.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:57am
