What is Krell? I am unawares...
  10:30am

The Krell I know is a high-end amplifier brand designed by Dan D'Agostino, whose eponymous monoblocks run $0.3M/pair. Saw them at a store in Newport Beach recently.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31am
Jeff Golick:

↳ Dean @10:29
Thanks, Dean. I've fixed ("fixed?") it. I wouldn't have parsed Lausanne Jellies without this context.
  10:34am
Dean:

The epigram to "Lausanne Jellies" is a fake quote attributed to Bruce Springsteen from a song he never recorded, "Strung Out In Oxnard," from an album he never recorded, Populist Snack.
  10:34am
mic_a:

Krell (audio) -- I haven't heard that name in ages! Had a high-end hi-fi friend who whispered it with awe.
  10:37am
Dean:

Clearly, Evangelista intends the echo. The album title is almost an anagram for Los Angeles (one A missing, an extra C), and the notes on the bandcamp site are all about the LA scene.

I've never been a Krell fan, though I did hear an impressive pair many years ago at Manhattan's Sound by Singer.

Sorry I'm late. Sorry I missed the Julius Hemphill. I had Blue Boye on vinyl when it first came out. I also heard him live with the World Saxophone Quartet and a memorable performance at the Public Theater which included a solo performance by drummer Jerome Cooper.

hmm, maybe some of those burnt creations are truly black?

@Listner Gregory: what's this about an Art Ensemble show? How did I miss that and where can I find it now

mic_a:

I pulled together a few Art Ensemble live performance links to drop in the not-quite-dead comments at Gary's show. So, here, too, some holiday viewing.

Hamburg, 1991:

Montreux, 1974 (w/ Muhal Richard Abrams. I haven't fully verified it, but this seems to be the same show as on the album "Kabalaba"):

And a little French TV studio thing from 1970!

Carlos Alomar told a great story on the PBS show about his one night working with James Brown. He was playing the guitar riffs to a song while Brown kept asking, "Can I take it to the bridge? ... Should I take it to the bridge?" This went on and on, and Alomar was grooving. Suddenly, without warning, Brown turned around and shouted "Hit it!" And as Alomar said, "I didn't take it to the bridge. And that was my last gig with James Brown."

All the black pigment info you could need.

I find PBk9 to be the blackest black, for me. "Amorphous Charred-Bone Carbon" -- probably not vegan approved.
