Obscure musical gems, avant experimentation, and classics worth rehearing. A conurbation of Leslie speakers, timbales, plungers, arch-tops, tablas, and squeaky reeds. Black ties, pork pies, Cuban boots, Nudie suits, bobbysocks, turtlenecks, and high-heeled sneakers. Jazz is the north star but it’s a wide universe, so says The Laughing Clock.

I myself am committed to the highbrow/lowbrow distinction. I know it's ill-advised, but I can't shake it based on my daily experience of "life." Dean:

I *never* watched Mr. Rogers. My opinion derives from his perpetual appearances in media well after I surpassed the age of his demo. I was a fucking Hobo Kelly and Sheriff John fanboy.

You can like or dislike Fred Rogers, I have no stake in it. I can see how he might seem creepy or smarmy or insincere.
BUT here's a video of him persuading a skeptical politician that maybe PBS (or CPB, I forget) should be funded.
Relevant today still.
(And yes, an argument can be made that PBS doesn't really serve "the public" as well as it should. But even as it is, I don't think we'd be better off without it.)

Surman's band, had to have a few Germans in there for his funding.

claude bolling also did some pretty good classical works, i own his suite for violin and jazz piano

the music is pretty solid, but i bought it just because i thought the album art looked pretty cool (an anthropomorphic violin, double bass, drum set, and piano seated at a counter at an ice cream parlor)
Avatar 🕰 Swag For Life Member 8:39pm
DJ Peter:

the "flute" one was the big breakthrough for bolling... and that anthropomorphic cover is somewhat less tasteful
