Re: Ukelele Ike's "When My Sweetie Puts Her Lovin' On" - it sounds like he's singing "She gets me so fucked up, I'm gone, little beauty." But if I try, in one instance he might be saying "puffed up." Who knows? Poor, poor hearing-impaired me.
A website about him says he: "developed a style of improvised singing, which he called "effin". "Effin" sounds a lot like the human voice imitating a hot trumpet or kazoo solo."

Hello from Hove UK: Ukelele Ike indeed sang song's with "dirty" lyrics. There are CDs of his "banned" records, very interesting...

Regarding the squeal at the end of the record: you say this is a part of the phonograph sound. I don't believe this is true. On the Victrolas I have, there is a fibrous pad that stops the platter. The squeal is caused by the effect of the years on the pad, which has caused it to become hard and dry.

Ukelele Ike's lyric is "Puffed up," clearly--puffed up like a toad. as for John McCormack, nobody sings like him--nobody! i assume we don't hear more of him, because so much has been issued on CD. what an amazing talent.
