wasn't there a betty boop cartoon modeled after the snow white story, and they used st james infirmary for the images.. was it my childhood mind that remembers the creepiness? was it real? dancing skellingtons.. etc. what a trip all these images evoke

Annie: You could be right--most of the Betty Boops were surreal as hell. I remember Cinderella but not Snow White. There was one starring Cab Calloway that had a lot of skeletons, etc.

oh good my memory is correct!!! i had surgeries when i was 7 and the skeletons danced in my dreams at that time.. i loved that cartoon..

I'm with you fms. Eager to cast the vote and fully pleased at the outcome, but the gravity, polarity and grind aren't in a state that awaits magic reorientation. Fights over turf and public perceptions will stay familiar. Experienced hands will by necessity have to be given a role in the admin., and standard risks and practices will suppress the shift potential. But we hope and we hope. (Here endeth the chin stroke.)

Yes, I finally feel like there is a ray of hope. What amazes me is that despite the jubilation that the world outside the U.S. is showing, there are still large amounts of angry naysayers here in our own country. Try sifting through some of the various forums out there (Fark for example) and you get this sense of an ugly underbelly.

One sunny day in 2009 an old man approached the White House from across Pennsylvania Avenue, where he'd been sitting on a park bench. He spoke to the U.S. Marine standing guard and said, 'I would like to go in and meet with President Bush.'

The Marine looked at the man and said, 'Sir, Mr. Bush is no longer president and no longer resides here.'

The old man said, 'Okay' and walked away.

The following day, the same man approached the White House and said to the same Marine, 'I would like to go in and meet with President Bush.'

The Marine again told the man, 'Sir, as I said yesterday, Mr. Bush is no longer president and no longer resides here.'

The third day, the same man approached the White House and spoke to the very same U. S. Marine, saying 'I would like to go in and meet with President Bush.'

The Marine, understandably agitated at this point, looked at the man and said, 'Sir, this is the third day in a row you have been here asking to speak to Mr. Bush. I've told you already that Mr. Bush is no longer the president and no longer resides here. Don't you understand?'

The old man looked at the Marine and said,
'Oh, I understand. I just love hearing it.'

The Marine snapped to attention, saluted, and said, 'See you tomorrow.'

Just a few thoughts: The GOP powers that be have to complain about SP's clothes spending and lack of decorum, because if they complain that she was unqualified and unprepared they would be admitting fault since they choose her to represent their party. I have no pity for the woman, and think she is dangerous as a vocal fundamentalist and federalist. She proved herself with her disregard and abuse of the little power they gave her. The GOP is just trying to save face by placing the blame on her. They choose her, she accepted. They are feeling shame as they should be. Her "You betcha'," comes with reflux.

Let's keep something else in mind; if Obama does succeed in delivering on some of his promises, the temptation of complacancy must be shunned. Surely, if the economy turns around, the pundits will say that it was thanks to stuff Bush did before he left office, and Mr. and Mrs. Walmart will go back to worrying about flag-burning and the 10 Commandments in courthouses. The rest of us have to remember that there will always be important work, real work, still to be done.

Ike, I had a problem, but I assumed that it was on my end, as our internet connex (which is straight outa 1998 to begin with) is running unusually slowly today. It resolved itself quickly. Your post is the first indication I've had that the problem was on FMU's end.
