Live performance and chat with Ethel

The adventurous post-classical string quartet Ethel has been breaking the boundaries between tradition and technology since 1998. They've collaborated with the likes of John Zorn, Steve Reich, Todd Rundgren, David Byrne, Andrew Bird, Iva Bittová, Thomas Dolby, Steve Coleman, and many others. Recently, founding member Mary Rowell left the ensemble, but they carry on capably with their new violinist Jennifer Choi. Ethel kicks off a tour with a new collaboration with flutist Robert Mirabal called "Music of the Sun," inspired by the sun mythology of Native America, and a new work called "Dream House" by Mary Ellen Childs.

Hi Irene,
Welcome back, I have tuned in far too late, just got back after seeing "Midnight in Paris", lovely movie. And I missed a Todd track, tish and tish again. Pledged my $50 and popped the envelope in the post so not so bad I guess.
  2:55pm
Irene:

Bert's passing makes me so sad! i got to work with him twice-- once here at WFMU, and last December at WNYC's Soundcheck. He looked really good back then and we thought he'd beaten his cancer. I'm honored to have had those two close encounters.
  2:55pm
Caryn:

Aw, Bert. I feel bad they didn't archive the tribute program they aired on the 5th.
  2:56pm
Van in Dallas:

Ditto on RIP Bert and ditto on pledge is in.
  2:58pm

Bert looked, sounded and played great @ Iridium last December, an unforgettable show, a timeless talent.
