And that sounds like an interesting subject to delve into--the "under/over"-ratedness of Exile on Main Street. It's a weird feeling, especially when music journalists write about it or the sessions, you get the feeling the double LP receives too much praise. Yet there are tracks like "Let It Loose" and "Torn and Frayed" that you wonder why they don't get more coverage.

Listening in archive later on Thursday. As much as I love the Groovies, I will go with the Stones. For those of us of a certain age, the Stones, and many others of the British Invasion, had actually been our first exposure to some of the great R&B sounds of our own country. The originals just weren't played on commercial radio. As a kid, I wondered if some of the authors of these great songs - like E McDaniels, M Morganfield, A Alexander - might have been from Liverpool. No disrepect to the Groovies, but the Stones were setting us straight years before.

PS: Your first song is a take-off on a famous old Cuban rhumba, "Mani" (aka "El Manicero"). Ricky Ricardo even sang a version of it on a certain old sitcom. Shrimp and Gumbo has a lot of Perez Prado.

JNP, I didn't know that about the Sabu song. Thanks for the info. Point taken about the Stones, and the Groovies were probably some of those kids you speak of who learned Chuck, Bo, etc. from the Stones. Luckily we don't actually have to choose one or the other. Shrimp Gumbo, Crab Gumbo, Mambo!
