Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

Callers
Thanks for listening to this show, I hope you enjoyed it. As happens sometimes, I really didn't have a cohesive program prepared, so I had to kind of cobble together some interviews, music and what-not into 60-minutes of something. I did enjoy working in the digital format for the first 19-minutes of the show. It's very time-consuming, but I do like it and hope to do more in the future when I can. The possibilites are endless. I also have to say that I was THRILLED to meet Paul Williams and to interview him. What a tremendous talent, and I am so pleased that he is doing well again and is featured in the new Stephen Kessler doc ... Paul Williams Still Alive, which I HIGHLY urge you to check out. Also, thanks to those who have been supportive when I read stories on the air that I have written. Sometimes I feel very indulgent doing that, but your encouragement tells me you enjoy it, so I will continue to do it now and then. I have more playlists to catch up on, so I'll go now. Thanks again for your loyalty, interest and support. Write me when you can -

dusty@wfmu.org

Until next time, take care and ... always remember!

Clay: I have a sincere issue that I'd love you (& listeners if inclined) to weigh in on...I've been contracting as a temp employee for a major bank/corporation for the past 18 months. I'm paid well above the minimum wage per hour for 40 hours/week even though I usually have only 5-20 hours of work per week. I work from home most of the time:so I'm getting paid to do laundry, garden, & to work on my art/photography. I have a long history of protest, activisim, and most of my consumer $ goes to the used/black market. When I hear others complain about gov't wasteful spending: I use my own examples of corporate waste. So how much bad karma am I earning to play Robin Hood as an employee? I'm genuinely curious about your perspective, you know how down I am with OWS.
  6:20pm

part two of the TNT! (is it thrusday night triad?) friend interviewed shelley winters back in the 80s at her home - shelley had her bathrobe open the whole time and naked to the wind underneath.

  6:24pm
kat330:

@sfrances: I sort of weighed in on your situation from a "who's a more dedicated/sacrificing FMU listener" perspective: The listener who's doing it on the corporate dime -- and usually ONLY while at work -- or the listener who's tuned in only on his/her precious leisure time, or even instead of freelance earnings from the home.
  6:25pm
dale:

do i hear the patter of little feet in the pigeon coop?
  6:25pm
kat330:

Family planning then? :)
Avatar 6:28pm
Clay:

2 cats. Romulus and Remus. Black cats.
  6:28pm
Philo Gristle:

@sfrances: I always appreciated what John Cassavates did. He acted in some crappy movies to be able to do what he wanted and needed to do. And he created great art that moved people intellectually and emotionally.
  6:28pm
sfrances:

@kat330: well from that perspective, 90% of my WFMU listening time is done during my precious leisure time. and yes, I donate to WFMU as well as a couple of non-WFMU podcasts...the bulk of my income goes towards non-corporate/mainstream spending...
  6:31pm
kat330:

Well, sfrances, I don't think you should be karma concerned at all. Everyone's doing a dance of what's best for the environment, what's best for society, and what's best for oneself. Being conscientious is the primary thing, and clearly you are that.
  6:31pm
sfrances:

@Philo: that's also the Steve Albini method of being a record producer. ;) He'd charge rich bands loads of $ for his services so that would underwrite him working cheap for poorer/more indie bands.
  6:33pm
sfrances:

@Clay : nice flow to your rhymes, MC!
  6:34pm
kat330:

@Clay: Seems it's always the FMU cat owners I'm drawn to (without knowing that fact first). :)
  6:35pm

i freelanced at an agency and they had me doing nothing for months. supervisor kept saying it was easier to keep paying me than to let me go and try to rehire me at a later point. nuts!
  6:35pm
Phillip in San Antonio:

Excellent playing Sigue Sigue!
  6:36pm
Philo Gristle:

That's what I do with my freelance design work. Pay what you can, and if you're filthy rich, I expect more. But since I don't know their wealth, I sometimes suspect the rich are the stingiest...
  6:36pm
sfrances:

@Clay: ooooooooh!! I'm so jealous you got to see the Paul Williams doc & talked to him!!!!!!

  7:13pm
Dan B From Upstate:

Really good point, other david, but I'd have to be a pessimist and guess that the only thing that will ever cause humanity to look elsewhere is a lack of or complete exhaustion of resources. I'm thinking aliens wouldn't leave for the same reason.
  7:13pm
seang:

we are aliens
  7:14pm
kat330:

@seang: I think the living things sharing our planet with us would believe so.
  7:16pm
sfrances:

did a book report in elementary school on Chariots of the Gods. Was obsessed in the early 70s with UFO, Salem Witch Trials, and Freaks...
  7:16pm
other david:

I think by the time we'd actually get our butts in gear and decide it's time to leave, it would be too late. At least based on looking at how we react to threats facing us now.

I believe there's probably alien life, that it's possible they have been here at some point.. but honestly, ufologists are.. prone to believe all nonsense and there just is no evidence that they've been here. Some interesting cases... but.... nothing that would stand up to rigorous scientific enquiry.

Also this caller.. eh..

Sounds like stress-induced alienizations.

sfrances, abc movie of the week fed that genre pretty non-stop
  7:19pm
b:

No intelligent life on other planets. Too many factors involved in making Earth habitable to believe any other planet could be. Odds in the trillions, can't believe.
  7:19pm
kat330:

OD, I'm also pessimistic in that way. Too many delusional people out there believing a) they'll be raptured soon anyway or b) even if no rapture, then somebody at some time will come up with some way to save us all, so let's just continue consuming at the current rate. Heads in the sand is an understatement.

Wow, Clay and Fabio doing their best Art Bell Coast to Coast AM radio!!!
  7:22pm

A lot of rational people observe unexplained phenomena in the skies and on the ground. Doesn't mean it's aliens, doesn't mean it's ghosts, doesn't mean it's the government. I suspect anyone who claims to have answers.
  7:23pm
Dan B From Upstate:

Clay and Fabio should use Giorgio Moroder's "The Chase" as bed music.
