  12:08pm
Cheri Pi:

Hey Duane! Killer mix here.
  12:11pm
Jeremy Shatan:

Going good. You? BTW, what do you think Don Van Vliet would think of that mix?
  12:12pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

Hello Mr. H
  12:12pm
Duane:

I think Mr. Van Vliet, would be a bit indifferent actually. LOL! I think he would've been like *grunt* "ok"
  12:12pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

Hello Mr. S
  12:13pm
Duane:

Cecile:

Hi, all!
  12:15pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

Glad to be here Duane!
  12:16pm
Jeremy Shatan:

Anyone here follow Dubwise Garage on Mixcloud? Highly recommended. Mostly live concerts (yes, a lot of Marley but I was listening to a terrific Black Uhuru set from Soledad Prison in 1982!) but also round-ups of singles and 12" like this: http://www.mixcloud.com/dubwisegaragecollection/dubwise-garage-retro-classics-vol-2-horace-andy-sugar-minott-more/
  12:17pm
Jeremy Shatan:

Oh, I'm no purist, Mr. U. Just had a funny image of grouchy Don going "What the heck?" I dug it the most.
  12:20pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

I just got this track yesterday... real nice!
  12:23pm
Marmalade Kitty:

  12:29pm

Good Afternoon
  12:39pm
BodegaMan:

Someone take the tix PLEASE, I can't stand this talk anymore. I can't make it and the more Duane has to talk it up, it's like salt on the wound.
  12:40pm
Mike East:

why is that the busiest week of the summer for me so far is the week they're showing Rockers on a big screen. That's some bullshit.
  12:40pm
Duane:

Rontronik!! What's the haps?
Sean: MF Doom special herbs
Hi Ix Key
  12:43pm
Mike East:

  12:44pm
Cecile:

  12:53pm
kata:

My contract at work ends this friday so I'll soon have more time for musical research...!
  12:53pm
G:

@MK: For years, the comments box refreshes and updates every minute or so. Today, it does not refresh automatically, and when I manually refresh, the system puts me back at the top of the comments box ( = the start of the show), rather than at the bottom ( = most recent comment), as it normally does. I'm using IE right now.

Is that what you're seeing, MK? It's the same on Ken, Amanda, and Duane, so it's not show-specific...
  12:54pm
Dan B From Upstate:

It's not just you, Kitty. The playlist isn't refereshing, and the comments aren't auto-scrolling on mine, either. Same during Ken's show. I have to manually refresh for new comments.
  12:54pm
robyn:

yes. this is great.
  12:55pm
Jeremy Shatan:

Try it on Chrome...likely you were forced the new IE upgrade and some stuff ain't going to work.
  12:55pm
Cecile:

Duane's right, but you have to work your way up to Angela Bofill and Minnie Riperton.
  12:58pm
kata:

OK, Cecile, will do.. :)
  12:58pm
G:

Thanks, IE! :-) Is this Microsoft's revenge for its first losing quarter since the 80s? (2Q 12)

Later on today, I'll be on a Mac, so that will solve that issue for now...
  1:00pm
Cecile:

those are hiccuping sob kind of shows.
  1:01pm
Ike:

Wow, people still use Internet Exploder? :P
  1:02pm
G:

Yep, WFMU plsylist/comments working totally normally on Firefox...
  1:03pm
Rontronik:

Dez Dickerson WOW
  1:04pm
kata:

this song appears briefly in Purple Rain, right Duane ?
  1:04pm
AnAnonymousParty:

I want to be a Muffin Man, or I want to be a Muppet, Man?
  1:04pm
Duane:

rontronik: Remember this song in Purple Rain? I was searching for this shit for years!!
  1:04pm
G:

I use a lot of computers a lot of places, with software often chosen by other people.

But all comps with IE also have Firefox loaded by me. Firefix, IT guys call it...

I get paid for online work, and I can't have crappy bloated badly-designed software wasting my time.
  1:06pm
BodegaMan:

Duane where did you find it?
  1:06pm
paula pc:

Oh Duane BLESS YOU for finding this! I didn't know it could be had!!!!
  1:06pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

great track
  1:06pm
Duane:

bodega man: Cititrax reissued it on 45 last year.
  1:06pm
robyn:

dang this show has been making me want to re-watch "purple rain" lately. one of my favorite scenes in that movie is when he leaves his girlfriend in the woods and just drives off on his motorbike in a huff. what a dick. funny though.
  1:08pm
Rontronik:

YES INDEED... was mad that it was not available for years...
  1:08pm
Neg-guh-tor:

Dez was the shit. Too bad the Modernaires were for the movie.
  1:09pm
Rontronik:

  1:09pm
paula pc:

ok now I'm in pain -- too much nostalgia -- The Prince Sound is just overwhelming sometimes
  1:11pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

Mr. Shatan... You... Will... Learn... To... Love... Prince...
  1:15pm
Eli:

Always loved this WET 12" Great to start the day to this...
  1:15pm
Jeremy Shatan:

Mr. U - Could you feel me fuming when that tinny Prince sound of the Dez track started playing? And I wasn't going to say anything...
  1:16pm
Mike East:

@robyn - I rewatched it recently. That is also my favorite scene. When I saw Purple Rain back when I was playing in bands, it really inspired me to try to bring a bit more theatricality to our live show. Also made me want to go to Minneapolis.
  1:17pm
Duane:

Eli: Gothic twirls abound!
  1:19pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

And yet there's tinny stuff you seem to adore...
  1:21pm
paula pc:

DUANE IS GIVING US THE CLUB DEEJAY TREAT-MENT -- THANK YOU DUANE
  1:26pm
Eli:

It's that bassline! The GROWL
  1:28pm
Cecile:

Mike East, it sure ain't the same here. but a lot of his sidemen and friends still play around. He once played downtown Minneapolis on a roof in the early 00s.
  1:29pm
Jeremy Shatan:

That was mesmeric - K.I.D. = C.O.O.L.
  1:33pm
Cecile:

damn, that's a great unknown rhythm section right there.
  1:42pm
trouble:

hey duane! sounds great per usual. can't get my new fave song out of my head: the loser by uncle derrick...x
  1:42pm
Cecile:

I'm amazed that these demos didn't have a legit release until now. Great stuff.
  1:43pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

That's King backing herself up multi tracked...
  1:45pm
Duane:

trouble: thanx. "THe Loser" is one of my faves from him. Perfect tune:)
  1:49pm
robyn:

@Mike East glad I'm not alone! I don't know why that scene sticks out like it does, but it does. mary tyler moore made me want to check out minneapolis.
  1:55pm
Eli:

Great version of Maiden Voyage! I've never hear this
  1:55pm
cij:

hot damn this is some sick yma sumac type awesomeness
  1:57pm
Cecile:

Karin Krog! Archie Shepp hung out with her for a while in Norway
  1:58pm
Eli:

How's the rest of this Karin Krog album?
  1:59pm
Duane:

Yes you're right Cecile.
Eli: It's excellent. She's great in general!

  2:10pm
Cecile:

  2:11pm
Cecile:

I always get Lotion, Medicine, Codeine and Morphine mixed up.
  2:12pm
Duane:

cecile: How are you still alive? LOL
  2:13pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

Cecile, there's a joke somewhere in there...
  2:16pm
Eli:

I bought this 12" at OM when it came out. Still sounds exciting. DUANE RULES
  2:16pm
Cecile:

hahahahah
yeah, and I can't sort out the rock bands by those names either.
  2:17pm
Cecile:

I bought the 12" of Blue Monday when it came out. Still sounds exciting. :D
  2:20pm
Ike:

Ha! @Cecile. That joke might be even funnier if Medicine, Codeine, and Morphine sounded at all alike. ;)
  2:20pm
Ike:

Not sure about Lotion. I don't think I know that one.
  2:21pm
Jeremy Shatan:

Cecile - you might want to consult with Drs. Hook, John or Feelgood. Or just Doctor and the Medics.
  2:22pm
robyn:

this set is so great!
  2:24pm
common:

  2:25pm

Aargh! Stream refuses to reload! Constant stream problems today...
  2:38pm
Duane:

I mean kata..GOD!
  2:42pm
Mike East:

I'm having them too, Caryn. I assume its my internet, the speed of which I hate complaining about, but its seriously messing with my flow.
  2:45pm
Caryn:

@Mike: most of the time it seems to be the slow speed of my net collection right now. But in recent days, the stream has been crashing in such a way that the whole computer freezes up and I have to restart the whole computer. As I don't feel like doing that again right now, I'll listen to the whole show again on the archives.
