Thanks Common. I think "Almost Cut My Hair" is one of the unintentionally funniest songs ever.

Oates & Hall:
Daryl and John have very nice haircuts. And one even sports a very swanky moustache.

Thanks for the Meat Puppets!

Hello all! Can't believe I missed last week's show because I got the day of the week wrong. (The day I thought was Wednesday was actually Thursday.) Losing track of time...

You could take up almost a third of your show w/ Gavin Bryars' "Sinking of the Titanic".

Fare thee well, Titanic, fare thee well.

Thanks for thems Meat Puppets, Ken!

Play a two hour retrospective of Barry Manilow! He writes the songs that make the young girls cry. He writes the songs, he writes the songs!
9:35am
Cheri Pi:
How's that mischievous puss Dr. Ernest Freedman Booty grabber?
9:35am
dcp@:
if this song were about 5 minutes shorter, it'd be perfect.
No Caryn, Dr Bootygrabber isnt allowed on the internet. He is against cats on the internet in general. He feels that it dilutes the brand. And of course he wouldnt want to be a hypocrite.
9:45am

does he take office visits from the other kitties in the neighborhood?
If he does, you may want to get that fixed...

*sigh* cats....
9:49am

This song is very different when a woman sings it.
A lot of like Scrawl's Public Image cover.
9:49am
dcp@:
man this is a great cover.
9:51am
Andrew Waterloo:
Once saw a show on CBC about Furries and since I was only half paying attention, and they have community standards, I was under the impression they just liked to walk around dressed like animals.

Dear Josh Homme:
Please make nice with Mark Lanegan and Dave Grohl and make some good records again.

Cecile, what PiL cover did Scrawl do? I think Scrawl's records still hold up really well.
9:54am

Pepsi please!

@Andrew: I wonder if such people also exist? It would be like transvestisism, but with mascot costumes.

STYMIE: Well, I'se full of ideas when I'se hungry.

@Dave B - I got your Boullabaisse Mix CD. It is very very well put together!
10:01am
Dave B:
Thanks Hamburger! I had fun doing that, and hope Meghan does another mix tape swap this year!
DO NOT play the Skeeball disc in a slot loading player!
10:02am
Caryn:
I occasionally get that with my eggs. Never thought about the "talking" aspect of it before. But I think that's because I don't keep my yokes whole, so I don't get the eye effect.
10:03am
hamburger:
Yea I got the note heh
10:03am

Cecile, yep. Definitely cool people. Marcy owns a club now in Columbus, Ace of Cups. Sue has a project called Fort Shame. Has ATP already happened? They were set to play that both here and over in England.

Oh! I'd like a ticket to the Bob Fass film!

BTW, just got a heap of swag yesterday. A bunch of stuff still on backorder, but some lovely stuff finally here to listen to, so yay!
I was all the time here. Didn't realize show already started. I was totally immerse in a Messer Chups playlists at the Youtubes! Wow! Can't believe I never paid attention to them before.

10:52am
Nad:
just get a real player, you will be much happier and your computer might even run a little faster
dictater - You might want to use winamp or iTunes to listen, as the flash player has been acting strangely since we moved to the cloud. Jan, I dont know much about them - they are from Cologne, I think.
10:55am
Peanut Gallery:
Camper van! ok, it's the original...
11:02am
Caryn:
You would think having a kid in your horn would muffle the sound, thus defeating the purpose of playing a horn in the first place.
11:04am
trish:
Though it isn't just a kid, it's a kid playing a horn. Bell in bell.
11:06am
f0f0 (:
pierre, Ken, people!
I finally had my first dream about this show!!
But I'm sorry to say but there was no Nakedness! Actually it was more about the playlist's comments. Ken was playing some anti-war songs and I suggested to play Stock, Housen and Walkman, but somehow I couldn't write that down no matter how hard I tried I'd just ended up typing STOCKHOUSE.
fofo, that is an autocorrect nightmare! I have those all the time. I wake up screaming and my typing finger is bloody.
11:08am

Thanx for the Brax morning march!

f0f0 (:
Another classy set FTW!
11:13am
Caryn:
@trish: true, but the kid has a trumpet, so a different brass instrument. The orchestration's going to hell if that's supposed to replace the tuba/sousafone/whatever that the kid's blocking.
11:15am
Dan B From Upstate:
Oppa Gunganm Sigh? i sense a mashup opportunity.
11:18am
Carmichael:
Music Noir. Howdy all.
11:18am
Caryn:
Those are some relaxed chickens for a ritual killing. Because if I was a chicken and anywhere near a ritual sacrifice, I'd be worried that I was next. If I had the cognitive capabilities for it, of course.
11:19am
BSI:
Now we need an embryo (with piccolo) in the kid's trumpet.
11:19am
trish:
@caryn- Sure, assuming the tuba orchestration is what they're going for.
Considering the departure from the norm in the rig, I'd guess or maybe wonder otherwise.
Could be the sound is all about the kid and the tuba is the fun chair.
11:23am
Cecile:
sigh.
11:23am
trish:
A score that's titled, 'RNA virus' ?
11:24am
Carmichael:
You can't spell "fun" without "bagpipes".
11:24am
Caryn:
@trish: true, but I sure hope that's not a marching band, because a tuba on its' own is heavy enough. With a kid in it, that's gonna be hell to carry around.
11:25am
Danny Boy:
the pipes are callin'!
11:26am
Dave B:
@Caryn - i'd like to see that kid get shot out like a circus cannon!
11:26am
trish:
@caryn: it'd be a fun ride for the kid
11:27am
Caryn:
Just trying to determine the track listing here, as Saor is Irish, but Duncarron is in Scotland... Hmm. But those are Irish bagpipes.
11:30am
Caryn:
But Saor Patrol are Scottish, so nevermind. A little googling sorted that out.
11:31am
MD:
Hoiw aboot some Rusty Nails...???
11:31am
f0f0 (:
I think, Caryn, that only thing we can know for sure is that those bagpipes were made in China.
Dare I play the Red Hot Chili Pipers sound unheard?
11:32am
Carmichael:
@Caryn: The Irish pipes are Uilleann pipes, played by bellows. You must have a good ear to distinguish them from the Scottish babgpipes. They do have a wider range, though, so maybe they are discernable. Just not to me.
11:32am
Caryn:
@f0f0 (: hah!
@Ken: go for it!
11:36am
Caryn:
@Carmichael: actually, you can usually tell them apart. The Uillean pipes are much more melodic. But they're easier to tell apart in groups. With just one bagpipe, they do sound way more similar. As the song went on, the bagpipe let off some more Scottish wails, so now I suspect I was wrong in my initial assessment, though, so it's not as if I can be said to have a good ear. I have hung out with pipers a lot, though.
11:37am
Cecile:
Good pipers, meh song selection.
11:37am
Cecile:
this one is good!
11:37am
hamburger:
I'd love to see this being played...
11:37am
Cecile:
this grooves.
11:38am
Caryn:
I think the Hendrix was the best one so far. It seems a good choice for the pipes.
Yeah, it wasnt easy but I found one that was playable...
11:38am
Carmichael:
Urban Turban plays this type of stuff regularly, with some oud and bouzouki thrown in for good measure.
11:39am
f0f0 (:
I'm now picturing Hendrix jamming with the pipes. Can't tell you what he's licking.
11:39am
Andrew Waterloo:
For some reason I want to hear Real MacKenzie's now.

Where are the sea shanties? What kind of Talk Like A Pirate Day doesn't have sea shanties?

To continue listening to Bagpipe music press 1.
To stop press 2.
11:40am

f0f0 (:, I'm picturing Hendrix setting the bagpipes down and setting them on fire. While they're still wailing.
11:41am

Me and some friends built a device we called "the Bag Pipe" out of plumbing supplies. Fill the middle chamber up with combustibles, power it all by a balloon filled with nitrous...

11:46am
YETI BOB:
This is good, but the live version on "Serpent" is even better - BLAZING.
11:46am
Andrew Waterloo:
@BSI, maybe it's a hot tub reference
11:46am
Caryn:
Eno's anthemic celebration of the day his jacuzzi was finally installed.
11:48am
YETI BOB:
Hate to say this, but the "warm jets" are pee... Look closely at the cover, and listen closely to the lyrics.
11:48am
kme in chi:
This track is the all-around winner of winning tracks of all time. Circle meets Eno at his best.
11:49am
Caryn:
@Yeti Bob: so, "Eno's anthemic celebration of the day R. Kelly popped in for lunch".
11:51am
ENO:
The title Warm Jets came from the guitar sound on the track of that name, which I described on the track sheet as 'warm jet guitar', because it sounded like a tuned jet. Then I had the pack of playing cards with the picture of the woman in there, and they sort of connected. That was one of the things that was going on at the time: this idea that music was still tied to some idea of revolution, and that one of the revolutions was a sexual revolution. I wasn't making a big political point, I just liked having fun with those things. Most people didn't realise for a long time -- it was rather deeply concealed!
11:51am
Andrew Waterloo:
It's just the story of a young man's enjoyment of an uninterrupted Sunday evening swim.

When the Warm Jets get here, they go under the highway to fight the Cold Sharks. Or have a pee-off with them...Wet Side Story.
