Johnny Horton did "The Battle of New Orleans," which, like many kids of my age, I first learned from the Muppet Show.

I remember years ago when I was about 13 we took a trip from AZ back to VT for a visit to our native country. And we stopped in D.C. and went to the Smithsonian and other places. The only thing I remember from that is there was some woman walking around in daisy dukes white pants style with her butt cheeks hanging out. Like any 13 y/o boy I had an uncontrollable boner . It seemed she was always in front of us, even when we went to another museum there she was. Looking back maybe my dad noticed her and made sure we went to the same places she was going.

The ruby slippers were in LA on the Oscars red carpet. Don't ask why I was watching the Oscars pre show.

hahaha! I always think of Woodrow Wilson rest stop when I hear Woodrow Wilson. Yes, I think there's a Roy Rogers there. The weird thing about Roy Rogers is I feel like they don't exist anywhere BUT rest stops....or maybe that's just in this region.

Pete from Boston (and NJ):

Roy's was a much bigger chain 20 years ago, but Marriott mismanaged them nearly into oblivion like most of what they touched. Marriott has long-term contracts to run a lot of rest areas, so they have hung on more tenaciously there. Still, very few Roy's seem to survive rest area renovations.

This is a subject important to me, you will observe.

I think the Double-R-Bar Burger, coupled with the Fixins Bar, is one of the best fast food concepts in theory, if not execution.

ah yes, topic - I loathe people who talk on the phones on the bus, and when other passengers tell them to shut the eff up, it makes me happy. I don't say anything myself, but I do give them the stinkeye, and quietly curse them.

I was boarding an Amtrak train one time maybe in Virginia somewhere. It was taking forever to loud all the folks on the train. The conductor kept saying that the quiet car is open. No body moves. I went up and went right on the quiet car. Only a few people wanted to go on that car. The other mass of people did not want that car.

If you put a banana in the tail pipe of those alarm cars it smothers the battery and thus stops the horn. FYI

Who can afford Amtrak anymore? The price has doubled since 15 years ago.

Green Mountain Man Mark:

With Amtrak the only way it is worth it is if you work their discount system and rewards points.
