I would like to dedicate my next drink to Joe Frank and listener Bill from VT. One caught my attention 20+ years ago, the other fed it back to me by stating, "It's changed the way I listen to music" roughly 15 years ago. It continues to do so for me.
  12:42am
Holly in NC:

Caryn, you must be beyond exhausted! I went back to for 2 hrs in am & now have hit dreaded too tired to sleep point. Rereading Bill Bryson for comfort while enjoying Therese.
Avatar 12:44am
Pete from Boston (and NJ):

I am going to go out on a freeform ledge here and say -- let us all please raise a glass to Mr. Nachum Segal. His JM in the AM makes a much more significant contribution to the bottom line than a lot of local and most internet listeners ever realize.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45am
Caryn:

Hi KP!

Yeah, Holly, way tired now. But trying to do some final morning chores so I can sleep deeply and for long.

Greg from Bloomfield:

Big Up Nachum. To quote Ted Leo: "Sometimes I listen to JM in the AM."
Avatar 12:47am
Pete from Boston (and NJ):

The "it" in "It's changed the way I listen to music" being WFMU, of course.
Avatar 12:49am
Pete from Boston (and NJ):

When I'm on my NJ side of things, I often catch JM in the AM -- a show I knew through friends' parents before I knew WFMU -- and feel like I get a new context for how much this is really community radio.
  12:52am
krudler:

Does anyone else think this chorus is exactly like the Thong Song?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57am
G:

True, Pete. It's not my listening preference, but I see the bumper stickers for JM in my area of Brooklyn. They raised $265,513 of their $240,000 goal. That's close to a quarter of the station budget, in exchange for the AM drive weekday slots (15 hours).

JM and Tom between them covered 475K or 40% of the station budget, so niche-ier things we like can have their space.

JM calls their swag tchotchkes, but the pledge format and even the layout of the pledge page is the same.
Avatar 1:01am
Pete from Boston (and NJ):

"Tchotchkes" was the chosen regular freeform premium name for the first years of the 2000s, too. I remember a discussion on the old WFMU message board about what to call the stuff, and that was the ultimate answer.

This one time? At an Ex show? It was the anniversary of 9/11 and they played "Listen To The Painters" and I cried a lot.

Dammit, don't want to go to sleep with all this good music still going on, but that's it. Need to crash now. Good night, all! Thanks to everyone - DJs, pledgers, volunteers, listeners - for making the Marathon a success. I can sleep happy now.

If you had to pick between going to Vintage Vinyl or Princeton Record Exchange, which would you choose? Ill have time to visit one, but not both, in a couple of days. I'll be looking for records primarily, so any opinions you could pass along would be appreciated. Thanks!
Avatar 2:43am
Therese:

Thanks, Fred!

And Chop Scott, always a pleasure to see you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48am
Hoboken Jack:

I think the Record Exchange is a bit more manageable for one visit. Vintage Vinyl is MASSIVE and has a lot of stuff you DON'T WANT so if time is an issue it's a little overwhelming. The used selection at the Record Exchange always seems a bit more, uh, well-chosen to me.
  2:51am
Roger:

Congrats Therese, WFMU, and to me for getting to hear Therese and WFMU for another year.
Avatar 2:54am
BadGuyZero:

One of the things that has me leaning towards Record Exchange is that I want to go the wing place around the corner [Chuck's Spring Street Cafe]; the Menendez brothers purchased said wing place with the inheritance they received after murdering their parents.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57am
Hoboken Jack:

Ha! I ate a lot of those wings in high school just before we'd heard of the Menendez bros! Princeton is also nicer to visit; Vintage Vinyl is just in a strip mall right off the highway.
Avatar 2:59am
BadGuyZero:

Thanks for the info/opinions, Hoboken Jack.

My pleasure, BadGuyZero! Enjoy your trip and let us know how it goes!
