Live Performance by A Hawk and A Hacksaw (Jeremy Barnes; percussion, accordion; Heather Trost: fiddle, vocals)

On the eve of a new album release, the New Mexico based ensemble, A Hawk and A Hacksaw were on the road, bringing them to WFMU's Jersey City studios. The duo of Jeremy Barnes and Heather Trost incorporate Balkan traditions in their music, put to good use on their latest disc, "You Have Already Gone to the New World." The album is their own soundtrack to a Russian film called "Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors," by filmmaker Sergey Paradjanov. In addition to touring, as they say on their website they "...still play weddings, bar mitvahs, circumcisions, quinceaneras, saints day feasts, general parties, etc," but A Hawk and A Hacksaw happily played for the WFMU audience.

It was filmed in Bamburgh castle in North East England if memory serves.

bill:

Brian do you know which scenes? just the courtyard, or any interiors, etc?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 2:28pm
Brian in UK:

bill, I thought some interiors but it was a long time ago. There was some debate but Polanski did not say much.
I've just read a James Thurber short story called The Macbeth Murder Mystery, only five pages but very funny.

Sean in Bristol, UK:

That track from Black Sea Hotel was beautiful

Thx Brian I'm a big fan of Thurber too so will definitely look that up!

hee hee, thx Brian! I also heard that Lady Macbeth's father had originally lost her at sea, but that scene somehow wound up in Pericles, clerical error no doubt
