@common - is it a bad skip due to a deep scratch, or is it a one-time skip? You might be able to try the old 'put a quarter on the headshell' trick to work through the skip.

common, it sounds radical, but drawing along the grooves over the scratch with a marker pen can fix a jump. it's worked for me before!

I became a fan of a certain pop song because of that punch-drunk effect. A bad snowstorm in late Nov. almost 20 yrs. ago caught me driving 6 hrs., almost running out of gas twice, from Newark to the Bronx. During that time "Christmas By Myself This Year", which was new, played multiple times and I got to like it very much.

@pat from dc - I made a big white board from melonite (I think it is called). The folks at home depot will know it as "shower board" 4x8 sheets are not very expensive and you can simply nail it to the wall (if you want to make that level of commitment...)
