The Contortions/ James White & the Blacks seem to have had a big influence in Europe. Lots of '80s Euro bands have this kind of sound.
Avatar 12:12pm
Carmichael:

Nice funk guitar!

Boo, Hiss. ;) Yo, Tony, Vic and all. It's great to see me here. And whoopee, I officially have Obamacare now.

Greets and congrats, PS Simon! Now you can have all the diseases you want!

Hey Tony! Great that you 'advertise' on Facebook! Wouldn't have made it otherwise, too much to keep track of these days.

The stream seems to have a touch of acid reflux today. Anyone else got the hiccups?
Avatar 12:27pm
Carmichael:

Yes, I just lost it. But I took some tums.
Avatar 12:29pm
Tony Coulter:

Yes, it says "Succes." They are Dutch and I am merely a faithful scribe.

i'm hearing ray price, which i'm okay with, but neither you nor joe are playing him, so............
  12:29pm

Avatar 12:30pm
Tony Coulter:

No problem, Mark -- now I see who you are!
Avatar 12:31pm

never mind. joe was just slow putting it up on the playlist.
Avatar 12:32pm
Tony Coulter:

The hiccups have been banished on this side of the stream.
Avatar 12:34pm

Ha, I was wondering about that.
Avatar 12:35pm

Yes, this is very James White-ish.

iTunes was acting funny, but the pop-up seems to be working okay.
Avatar 12:47pm
Chris from DC:

This is great. Have to see if he has any vinyl out there.
Avatar 12:48pm
Tony Coulter:

I-tunes is fine now, I believe. The stream dropouts have passed.
Avatar 12:48pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Chris: He does have a vinyl 7".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm
Rich in Washington:

iTunes is working good for me. Nary a dropout today
Avatar 12:49pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Chris: That and this tape are his only releases.
Avatar 12:50pm
Chris from DC:

Cool, need to track that single down then.
Avatar 12:53pm
Tony Coulter:

There are two versions of the 7". One is rather uniquely packaged in a 12" sleeve. The jacket has a pouch in the middle that the single rests in.

the stinkeye I'm getting from office-mates suggest this music isn't sufficiently christmassy enough for them.

oh, office mates and wfmu. the eternal struggle.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm

Rich, you should play "Christmas With Satan" by The Contortions for 'em.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm
Rick from SC:

this reminds me of Snakefinger
Avatar 1:00pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey Rick! I see what you mean for sure.
Avatar 1:01pm
Chris from DC:

Office "merriment" about to start, so I don't get to hear the rest of this, drat. A real find though.
Avatar 1:02pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Rich: Perhaps if you periodically say "a rum pa pa pum" your office mates will be appeased.

@Tony: You don't know my coworkers. There's no telling what kind of behavior the phrase "a rum pa pa pum" might encourage in them.
  1:11pm
Mark von Knark:

Yeah now it's good. Ambulance sirens... We suffer in a world we can't escape where we will have to die... This is good.

Danny Finney of the Orthotonics now sells organic food at Tricycle Gardens in Richmond VA. Here is a photo of him plying his wares: tricyclegardens.org...

Avatar 2:02pm
Tony Coulter:

Programming note: I will be back next week on Christmas Eve Day, with a regular freeform show -- and not a note of Christmas music.
Avatar 2:05pm
Carmichael:

No barking dogs?? No Dr. Demento songs?? No John Effing Lennon?? Whatever will we do?!?
:)
Avatar 2:07pm
Tony Coulter:

Additional programming note: Next week's show will in fact be extra-regular. I'll be eating lots and lots of bran in the days ahead.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 2:20pm

i'll be on vacation that week, so a non-christmas show will make hitting up the archive extra-sweet.
