Where's Danne D? I know he'd better enjoy the Bengals playoff ride while it lasts, but I'm getting worried...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm
fred:

@RRN63: I was talking about Dartmouth with a coworker yesterday. Looks pretty dead if you're over 21 and don't have children. That's close to you I think?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm
fred:

Amanda, I LOVE this record (last splash), and this song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm

...Northernmost outpost of Ivy League, I think you could say
...pretty square compared to UCSB - as I lived out there several years...

Cool, fred, glad you enjoy! A bit of an obvious choice, but sometimes that's OK.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm

...good to hear Kim do it - in light of news that firing Kims from the Pixies has become the trend to larf @...

@Amanda: Yeah, but I haven't listened to it in years. Time to break that streak. I don't mind the obvious, I have no shame, I'll even say I'm a Juliana Hatfield fan
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm

Me too!

Ugh... not so loud... (j/k :-))
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm

I have the most shameful story to share about the Pixies. It was in the late 80's, a friend asked me to go with him to a Pixies show, he had a backstage pass, and I declined because I didn't know that band. I have a sore ass from kicking myself over it for two decades and counting
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm
fred:

Quite the opposite RRN63, it's what drives me to acknowledge I know nothing and go to shows I know nothing about, provided I can afford it. A bar that's sadly lowering, not because I earn less, but because there's been a crackdown on live music in Paris, outside of overpriced venues
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...you wouldn't want Paris to become known for it's Culture - they'd never leave you alone...

Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- noirce UM.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm
listener james from westwood:

never been one for massive crowds like times square, vegas, etc., for NYE or other celebrations. i've preferred simpler new year's gatherings last decade or so. seeing friends and knowing we all made it through the year. board games, shooting the shit, a token ball drop viewing, and then back to the game.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm
fred:

@RRN63: I think it's the same problem as in NYC. Those hipsters want to move in to lively places, then they breed and want quiet, they have daddy call the riot cops to beat up those made these places lively to begin with. Sad, disgusting, true.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm
Uncle Michael:

Amanda, only you would treat me to a forgotten, inadequately-considered-in-its-time April Wine track. Thank you.

Amanda:

How sweet, UM! You are welcome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm
Parq:

Happy 2014, 'Manda. For once, I get to listen to your show from home. From the VP to Graham P must have been quite a seg.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm
fred:

@RRN63: "Bobo" is supposed to be the word for it "Bourgeois Boheme". Doesn't blunt the truncheon thing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- excellent fred - @ least we have good words (if no Music & Culture)...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm
Parq:

Fred, the preppie kids have done even worse. At least the hipster kids aren't demanding more Starbucks, 711 and Barnes and Noble so their new city home will be more like their memories of home in suburbia. Then they move back to suburbia, leaving the rest of us to live in exactly the sort of mall sprawl we came to the city to escape.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm
Uncle Michael:

If anyone was ever born to be bobo, 'tis I.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm
Amanda:

@Parq, maybe it was a good seg, I've blotted out all memory of it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm
Matt F:

Somehow I am awake and listening to your god damn show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm
Amanda:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm

@Parq: Looks like Dante would know what to write about purgatory now. Not hot enough to be hell, though it doesn't feel better
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...Stipe is unequivocally an important Artist to me...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm

oh man. i missed april wine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...R.E.M. not quite the fashionable Alternative act that became successful to bash as U2 - but you can see it from there
- whereas I was watching a video of an arena-sized show of REM's & thinking - this is where so much comes together - Byrds, Velvets - nice job !...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm
Parq:

I kinda think that what pushed anti-U2 sentiment over the top was Bono's unabashed histrionics on and off the stage. Stipe has spared us that.
Avatar 1:01pm
glenn:

also, he's just a dick.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm
fred:

Well, I acknowledged liking Micheal Stipe and Juliana Hatfield, so I might as well confess to being born in the early 70s
@RRN63: U2 and REM were totally different. U2 were over the top, REM were overwhelmed
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- the real UK analog to REM is probably The Smiths.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm
fred:

Morrisey is closer to Bono than to Stipe
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- solo Morrisey seems...different...
Avatar 1:05pm
glenn:

the smiths are just as much about johnny marr as they are about morrissey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- & it *is* hard not to be Overwhelmed once you reach the Top40 Arena-filling level...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm
fred:

Bono is to rock what William Shatner is to acting. Morrisey is a soggy second-hand Cliff Notes to an Oscar Wilde for high-schoolers anthology.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...nothing to add !...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm
Parq:

Well said, Fred.

please, a little less love, and a little more common decency.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm
Parq:

Amazing how Coca Cola has occupied the high ground of American pop culture. Not only was that rewrite of the commercial a huge hit, but their images of Santa Claus appear in more retro sources that Nast's, and that commercial with the football player was as big a hit as I Love Lucy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm
fred:

Why sing along when you have Amanda's voice? (I don't)
Avatar 1:18pm
earrie:

@parq In 'paid-for' pop culture. The forced-feeding side of pop.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm

...that StrawAlarm was half Cowsills half Nazz...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- What do you call that haircut?
- Arthur (Lee) !...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...was it Coke or Pepsi that set Jacko's hair on fire?...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- oh - Uncle Michael : Thx to Psychedelicised Radio for playing the NYE Fillmore Band of Gypsies & Mountain last night ! Much appreciated ! Noirce !

@RRN63: is there any classical music scene near Dartmouth? I'm asking for a coworker who's a cello player and won't stand any music less than a few centuries old. She had an offer at Dartmouth and was worried about the landscape.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm
fred:

@Amanda: I like Liz Phair too, but please play Juliana Hatfield sometime, maybe
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- uh - it ain't any kind of City w/ a weekly Symphony...I'm sure websearching Dartmouth would be more accurate than I can be...I wouldn't count on too much of anything in smalltown North New England...

Amanda, by spelling AUM with all caps, you have just earned the undying appreciation of label founder Steven Joerg, who cares deeply that it be presented as so. My HATs off to you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm
Amanda:

But of course! Hats off to the details! Thanks Doug :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm
fred:

@RRN63: the reason I asked you was for what wouldn't show up on google. Nevermind, if I haven't said so already, I wish you a happy new year, with "you" as specifically you and not a generic placeholder. I don't speak for the station, but for myself, I'm really happy you joined our dysfunctional community. I think we're better with you around. I'm happy to have "met" you, however virtually
