Is this Fetzen piece what they call "shredding?"

Rihming it.

Yes! To shred or tear. "der Sturm fetzte das Dach vom Haus" = the storm tore the roof off the house

"Secret Society"--interesting, sounds like the score of an old Bond movie.

Benadryl: Cheap, ubiquitous & effective decongestant; you will become drowsy & need much hydration.

Soup is wonderful! :D

And kale juice? Iiiinteresting...
Avatar 8:20pm
Bethany Ryker:

kale, parsley, apple, lemon & ginger. and more kale.
  8:20pm
JakeGould:

No. Don’t use Benadryl. I used to get allergies & sinusitis all the time. Now that I have been using Neti pot, things have been great. I also drink green lemon/ginger tea (loose stuff) and just eating better. Lots of water. And rest. Be well, Bethany.
Avatar 8:20pm
Droll:

Yeah, that sounded icky, but it looks good: www.choose-healthy-food.com...
Avatar 8:21pm
Bethany Ryker:

yes, neti pot is crucial.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:22pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I would totally drink the kale juice.
  8:23pm
JakeGould:

Also, the reason I say “Don’t use Benadryl” is my personal cheap high-school high habit of taking Robitussin & then drink. I don’t even plan it that way. Totally knocked me off my ass but so horrible for you. Rest is the best.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- honestly - I like the hypnotic drowsy part of benadryl - it's so hard to get rest when congested - & it is an effective decongestant - but drugs aren't 'good' for you of course. I find nothing makes me feel as good as garlic when I have a cold.
  8:28pm
JakeGould:

Oven roasted garlic is great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28pm
Matt from Springfield:

@RRN63: Garlic is great, sick or healthy! Not to mention that lemon-ginger tea, that is a fantastic flavor combo, and so healing!
  8:29pm
JakeGould:

Also, lemon ginger tea is a very cheap combo tea as far as green teas go. Much less than sencha loose.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- get your own fresh ginger & chop it up & into whatever.
Avatar 8:31pm
Bethany Ryker:

I love the way this show has taken a flavor/fragrance-based sensory turn. There can never be too much fresh ginger.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...actually good for your tummy - unlike nearly every drug.
  8:33pm
JakeGould:

The thing with ginger is it can even be old & desiccated, but in a tea it’s still potent.
  8:34pm
JakeGould:

Ginger cuts down gas. But too much of it can actually be bad for your stomach. Oh look at us! We’re being like helpful!
  8:34pm
P-90:

@ Ms. Ryker: The green drink is great (try adding fresh spinach to the kale) but not a replacement for 500-1000 milligrams of vitamin C in the ascorbate form, every 4 hours and just before bed.
@Jake G. & RevRab: Benadryl and alcholic bevs used recreationally sounds like fun, I wish it would work that way for me but that kind of combo just puts me right to sleep (and I'm pretty hyper and resistant to most sedating things)

@Jake/P-90: I've mentioned it before, but I accidentally discovered that alcohol + Dayquil = makeshift speed! It makes you manic and awake!
  8:37pm
JakeGould:

P-90, I did that whole Benadryl and alcohol thing accidentally. It’s only years later I started to realize what I did & why it just sucked.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:37pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Benadryl is a Hypnotic. Correct.
  8:39pm
JakeGould:

Also, I don’t really drink anymore—no big life decision, just realized I just don’t like it anymore—but I highly recommend this drunk remedy. Get a bottle of Korean Soju. It looks like Sake, but it’s basically Korean hooch. Costs like $5 a bottle. About 20% proof at least. Will clear your head and knock you on your ass.

@Jake: Soju-do: the Korean martial art of kicking people to the ground, plying them with soju.
  8:44pm
JakeGould:

Soju is actually not that easy to find in NYC. Like, in some “Brownstone Brooklyn” booze stores you can’t find it. But here in Bay Ridge—and in Clinton Hill—you can just go to most any liquor shoppe and find it. Great, great stuff.

as far as vit c goes I have my method , not trying to promote a brand either but ... bit.ly... ... I take 5 - 10 g a day in divided in to 3 or 4 doses myself,, can only say what works for me **Vitamin C should be taken in fairly high doses. Optimum levels are at bowel tolerance, the point just before one gets diarrhea and a stomach upset.***

@Tome: - that's reportedly what Linus Pauling said about Vit. C dosage. Vitamins are basically either fat-soluble, or water-soluble - & we pass excess water-soluble dosages - that way...
- Because humans are descended from fruitarians - our bodies do not make our own Vit. C from other things we eat - which most animals can do - is my understanding...

Alzo@Matt, re: Dayquil-used to have pseudoephedrine, like Sudafed. Taking it w/ booze accellerates absoption of the speed by causing it to pass into your system faster & harder. Alcohol also does this for many things including aspirin, so the original Nyquil formula had like 25-30 % alcohol, the better to knock you out with. (Remember the "shot-glass"- style cap that you measured your dose in? = a lot of booze at that proof!) Other cold remedies lime Cheracol cough syrup were even stronger (note the name: cherry syrup [soothing] + alcohol [you know] = less throat pain and a little buzz, so you didn't care anyway.)

Thanks P-90! I figured the alcohol would break up the active ingredients into solution, but I guess the rocket-fueled absorption is the more sensible explanation. Cheracol--I've heard stories from long ago about that one!
