Yeah, they were a year or so away from making Love Beach

I saw ELP in Oakland on August 14, 1977. The old Journey opened for them.

i remember reading in mojo that part of the reason things imploded was that their tours lost a ton of money because they wanted the full orchestra and therefore needed several buses and dozens of hotel rooms and all the semis for the stage props and an immense crew of roadies on and on and on....

Carmichael:

That's true, Dale. By the time they hit the Bay area, the orchestra were gone. Great show anyway.

Biggest show was Metallica at the Metrodome right after St. Anger.

Chris, in 1975 I saw Peter Frampton, Loggins & Messina, and Rod Stewart & Faces (with the Tower of Power horn section) here in Sacramento. Stewart commented that a couple was "making love" directly in front of him. He kciked a bag of soccer balls into the crowd during the encore.

Hi Chris - The B52's played our Halloween party at Pratt in 1979. My roommates and I thought it would be a really great idea to bootleg the show on cassette while dressed as DEVO, in yellow jumpsuits we bought on Canal st. and spray painted yellow in the dorm stairwell. In anycase, I was holding the giant boombox with a 90 minute cassette on my shoulder. Not exactly camoflaged, but no one bothered us either, although I got evil looks from Fred Schneider. I got most of the concert, and actually doesn't sound too crappy, except the tape ended during Rock Lobster and I was kinda not exactly sober enough to flip the cassette fast enough. The B52's did not do an encore (probably due to me), and were later found doing massive amounts of coke in Fr. Perry's office after the show because the "vibes were cool". So that's my story.

Wow, Beefheart as a first concert, nice. Mine was Ratt with Bon Jovi opening. Pffft.

oh by the way I saw The Grateful Dead at Englishtown and Yes at MSG in 1977 and I don't remember anything about them. and Yes again in 1978. I gave up and saw the Ramones and the Bad Brains instead the next year....

@Jan: sounds like you made the prog/punk transition seamlessly!

hi Mariano It may have been working in my dad's machine shop and trying to get into art school that did it.

Machine shops are the gateway drug to the Ramones and Iggy Pop.

Saw Elvis Costello May 11, 2007 in Detroit at The State Theater. Decent show, awful crowd.

Yeah, like the guy on the phone is saying, I hate going to concerts in big venues these days because you have to sit down. Friend of mine saw Metallica years ago at MSG, and they couldn't even stand up in front of their seat! Sacrilege.

does sonny bono's widow make money when this is played?
