Hello Boss, quick hello/goodbye. Shifting furniture in Somerset. Sounds like a Richard Brautigan title.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:04am Doug Schulkind:

Hello, Brian in UK! So sorry about the Suárez beatdown yesterday.
Avatar 8:40am ausmanx:

England deserved it, Australia did not... we were robbed, again! However, i was surprised at how well the US played. Klinsmann is something of a wizard... evening Doug and Brian!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42am Doug Schulkind:

Good evening, ausmanx! What amazing project are you working on now? A consolation fruit basket for Tim Cahill perhaps?
Avatar 8:50am ausmanx:

i have been editing captions for classic world cup matches this week, nice work. but you have to pay a price... they've run out of video, and now i have to do the unspeakable Andre Rieu. i suspect that's the first and only time he'll be mentioned on your comments board. you have Tim in NY now, lucky folk...

You got it, Gary. Cleanliness trumps all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:56am Maggie B.:

ausmanx, i'm also editing captions (for photos). most of this week it was all World War One, all the time. today it's on to the even cheerier atomic testing on amchitka island.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:01am Doug Schulkind:

Don't go in the shower, Holly!! There could be spiders. (At least not the fish-eating kind. I can only hope.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:02am Doug Schulkind:

Good morning, ndbob!
Avatar 9:03am ausmanx:

i'd not witnessed Andre before... it's far worse than i ever imagined. is there an andre eating spider yet to be discovered? that fish eating one was disturbing. photo captions are damn important, m.

@ndbob: That beats the bear that was wandering around the far west Chicago suburbs the other day. The NIH has laboratories, right? Can they mix up some drugs to give the bear?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06am Alex In Illinois:

Maybe it was a local pronunciation. My sister-in-law is from Pittsburgh and her mother's boyfriend speaks with what I thought was some kind of Scottish accent, but is actually a Pittsburgh accent.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09am Doug Schulkind:

Good point, Guido!

@Alex in Illinois
There was nothing else "accent-y" in the read of that commercial. It also wasn't a professional voice-over actor. It's a local commercial that the radio station produced. Probably grabbed some board-op to do the read.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09am Gary:

DDD synopsis, c/o rAjOo: "Neeta is a heiress, the only daughter of U.K. based Industrialist, Jagat Narayan. She is of marriageable age, and is presently wooed by Kailash, Chandra, and Raja. She prefers Chandra over Kailash and Raja, but subsequently changes her mind and falls in love with Raja. Things take a dramatic turn when Jagat and Neeta find out that Raja is not who is claims he is. When Raja defends himself, and calls himself Roop, his very own mother denies this claim, and instead states that Chandra is Roop, her only son. Raja alias Roop must now make attempts to prove himself, and realizes that this is indeed an uphill task."

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25am Gary:

@Doug, it was a reference to his real last name (which sounded Italian, which is why he changed it to Barbosa) ;-)
Avatar 10:25am doca:

@Doug: I got a 4-CD set with a 230-page book of Casa Edison's (Brazil's first recording company) at the university library. Do you know any of it? I was thinking about ripping the CDs and scanning the book to put on the web.

@doca
Do you know this collection: www.brazilcult.com...

I have it and it is wonderful.
Avatar 10:36am doca:

@Doug: Portuguese has a tricky pronunciation indeed for an English-speaker. Just as a note, Adoniran's songtitle translate as "My Adress is in the back", as it narrates what the guy said in a letter to a patron of his who lent him money to buy his house (that's why the address). It ends with the singers asking the "Doctor" to visit him at his house. Much of Adoniran's songs are very acute social comments on the lives of the historically poor.

Thanks for the translation, doca!
Avatar 10:41am doca:

@Doug; Wow, cool! I never got my hands around that compilation, it must be awesome (Do you mind putting it online someday? eheh).
I know there's a book comparing Mário de Andrade and Bela Bártok's "etnographic missions". I think both maintained correspondence at some time, which would be very interesting to see.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42am Doug Schulkind:
