Favoriting Bryce: Playlist from July 25, 2014 Favoriting

I never miscue a record. I am punctual, well-prepared, and dislike clutter. Outgoing and helpful, I'm always appropriately dressed. I do not behave erratically and have excellent penmanship. My CD's never skip, and I am in good health. I like all the notes, in any order.

it's so wonderful to hear all this stuff now. it's still being rediscovered! most of her 70s works were hourish in length, and because of the the limitations of vinyl, just presented a few times, either in "concert" or installation.....then the tapes went back into their boxes for good.....

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm

I've been enjoying one of her recent compositions lately, Naldjorlak I-III. Was hesitant to order it at first, since it's not "electronic" like her earlier works, but it's actually really wonderful.

Pete Townshend:

Is something playing on the radio, or is it just my ears?
  1:06pm
Ken of Brooklyn:

A good friend met her when doing an art residency in Paris, she's fun and super approachable. Wish someplace like PS1 would do a big retrospective of her music and scores, etc,,,,,
Avatar 1:06pm
Bryce:

couple years ago, a few of her recent instrumental pieces were performed in NYC. i couldn't make it.....
  1:06pm
Lulu:

I have never heard of this before "Buddhist drone core" (in youtube comments) amusing but accurate categorization. I was wondering if I could use this for yoga, seems like it might work, but might be more suited for meditative drawing, as it might be too dark for yoga.. what do you all think it would be good for?
Avatar 1:07pm
steve:

i saw some Naldjorlak performed at Issue Project Room in 2010. i like the electronics more but it was some serious heavy sounds from i think a solo cello and then some kind of horn? plus i immediately rode my bike to Manhattan to see Merzbow right after!
Avatar 1:08pm
steve:

then i ate pizza
  1:09pm
Ken of Brooklyn:

DAMN, didn't know about that Bryce.
And Lulu, I think someone told her music sounded 'buddhist' at one of her concerts and she become immersed in that soon afterwards. Very cool artist!

Sounds like the MELA room. You can spend all day just crawling around in there like a slow motion baby.
  1:11pm
Ken of Brooklyn:

@ Steve, a perfect nite!!!!!
Avatar 1:12pm
Bryce:

lulu, when she started presenting these pieces, some students came up to her and informed her she was a buddhist. she was apparently, like, "oh?" but she looked into it and wound up spending years studying tibetan buddhism, if i remember correctly.

ken, i was in paris last year, and a friend of a friend knows her. he said the same: "you should meet her!" didn't work out, but always inspiring when people are lovely and approachable.
Avatar 1:13pm

whoops, beat me to it, ken. :)

bill, yeah, same deal! fewer channels, but you can still crawl around on the floor and discover secret chattering and rumbles.
