Favoriting Bryce: Playlist from February 6, 2015 Favoriting

I never miscue a record. I am punctual, well-prepared, and dislike clutter. Outgoing and helpful, I'm always appropriately dressed. I do not behave erratically and have excellent penmanship. My CD's never skip, and I am in good health. I like all the notes, in any order.

how many discs are in it? that sounds like a very expensive set.

i had an extra copy of that box set so i threw it in the compost heap.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm

that's how i feel about the king crimson 11;27;& 20 cd sets. they're obviously not meant to be heard by more than a handful of people.

Avatar 1:20pm
sphere:

it's only 5 LPs even! the mind wobbles.
Avatar 1:21pm
Cecile:

All their stuff is crazy expensive. They must spend a fortune on licensing, or packaging or just figure free jazz fans have deep pockets. That Cecil Taylor/Tony Oxley deal is $110 for a 2-LP set!
Avatar 1:21pm
Bryce:

they've been kind enough to include us on their promo list. (didn't realize....)
Avatar 1:22pm
Cecile:

that is very nice of them to do that. That actually means something! What is the packaging like?
Avatar 1:24pm
Cecile:

there is a whole book with it, and it comes in a wood box, but still...yikes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm
Stepchild:

Meanwhile, loving . HAd to look up the bassist on the Freedom & Unity track. Tyrone Crabb. Outstanding low end stuff now.
Avatar 1:25pm
Cecile:

well, you guys are lucky you have it. Maybe you should play it all during a show?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm
coelacanth:

you might be on to something that they think free jazz fans can afford that. i've been waiting several years to find certain David S Ware albums, and one Anthony Braxton- to be affordable.
  1:28pm
doca:

Is this from Angelina Jolie's father? Just kidding, great stuff.
  1:29pm
doca:

And you're right. For some reason special editions, reissues and free jazz boxset are expensive as hell.
Avatar 1:29pm
Cecile:

I used to tell the folks at record fairs that I would spend no more than the price of a domestic CD (at that time around $18) for an album. I ended up getting some good stuff, because they had it priced way too high. Doesn't matter if NYCers will pay you $35 for it, you're in Mpls and the market will pay you a whole lot less.
Avatar 1:30pm
Cecile:

that all ended with discogs.
  1:32pm
doca:

Did discogs pushed down or high the prices of albums? In Brazil we have a similar thing for books and the result was that the guys that didn't know the value of what they had started putting up the prices of what they sell way above what it was before, just because they now had a measure to compare with other sellers.
Avatar 1:34pm
Cecile:

it depends on the release - I've gotten some good deals - but it raised the average price of desirable stuff. Now people in MN can get that $35 they wanted for their album because someone else will buy it from another place.
Avatar 1:35pm
Cecile:

Still, in actual record stores, there's a lot more variance. Different cities have different "hits". Clean Santana records are still pretty cheap here, but last time I was in Lower Michigan, they were more expensive than I remembered.
  1:36pm
doca:

Yeah kinda the same that happened here. It makes it all into just one market.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm
coelacanth:

it goes both ways. some things that were formerly thought of as collectible, now, because of the internet, people can see that there are lots available.
Avatar 1:41pm
Cecile:

once again, brick and mortar seems to be the place to go for an unexpected deal. And a good place to sell records if you know the local market well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm
coelacanth:

i once paid $20.+tax for a 7" that now is easily available for $6. total. (ie)
Avatar 1:45pm
Cecile:

yup! and even collectible records go up and down in price. Depends on age of the audience, health of the performer, media coverage, etc.
Avatar 1:46pm
Cecile:

I bought the first three Wipers records for a total of $7.50 because I got lucky and nobody knew who they were.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm
coelacanth:

if you mean the lps, i'm a little jealous!
Avatar 1:48pm
Cecile:

yup! Found 2 at used store, the third at an excellent punk/new wave store that was going out of business.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm
coelacanth:

oh,my. i paid more than that for the 3 album set on cd,though i did get a good deal because the jewel case was pretty well smashed. i'm sure i paid 10-15 for it.
...and i'll always prefer vinyl.
Avatar 1:52pm
Cecile:

that's still a great deal for 3 discs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm

haha! well,up until now i felt lucky!

I asked Fabio if he had more in common musically with Bryce or Kurt Gottschalk. He felt that he and Bryce had more crossover of similar artists. Of course he deeply respects both of these men. I would love to hear Bryce and Fabio co-host a show and perhaps ... duel.
Avatar 2:18pm
Bryce:

fabio has a crazy psychedelic photoprint shirt of a bullfighting collage. donna & i were in quebec city oonce, and i found the exact same one.

i keep trying to get him to wear it on the same day as me at a record fair so we can have a slap fight.
  2:20pm
Clay:

I would pay to see that. Maybe at Monty Hall.
Avatar 2:21pm
Ike:

Ha ha, me too. I can just hear Fabio trying to laugh off the idea and claim that nobody wants to see that.
Avatar 2:23pm

i'd love a bryce and fabio show. don't know what the wife and cat would think about it though
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm

I think Bryce and Fabio would just play 2 90 minute pieces and go out to lunch.
Avatar 2:42pm
Cecile:

I always wanted to hear Joe Belock and Diane together. They like a lot of the same punk and garage tunes.
Avatar 2:42pm
Cecile:

of course, Bryce and Fab would go to lunch while the pieces were playing. there would be no mic breaks and perhaps some dead air.
