Favoriting April 7, 2015: DISASTERPEACE (It Follows composer RICH VREELAND)
Disasterpeace aka Rich Vreeland joins host Devon E. Levins on Morricone Island for an in depth discussion and listen to his first film score, It Follows. Staten Island-born/Berkeley-based Vreeland is an electronic musician perhaps best known, until now, for a series of video game soundtracks. The "make you jump right out of your seat" throwback to the 80's horror film, written and directed by David Robert Mitchell, was officially released last month as was the creepy synth-laden, pulsating soundtrack. The limited vinyl edition comes out on April 7th.

Hey, Devon, All youses!

Big ups to Rich Vreeland. These sounds are intense. Haven't seen the movie, but now know i'm gonna be terrified! :D

Stepchild:

Stream seems to be only in right channel, no left... Just me?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:13pm
Mike East:

I just watched Birdman last week. That soundtrack is killer. I gotta go back and relisten to your Antonio Sanchez episode.

Macro Lenz:

Madd cool show Devin E. Levins.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:14pm
Mike East:

Yeah, here too, Stepchild. Only one channel
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:16pm
Stepchild:

OK well the mic is in both; just the soundtracks were sat on
Avatar 7:16pm
Ĩkє:

Also on the 91.1 FM broadcast -- that track was also heavy or solely in just one channel -- but now that Devin is talking, all sounds normal again.

Macro Lenz:

The FM sounds good in Hudson County

Nice work on Fez.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32pm

Still right channel only. Can that be?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:34pm
chris:

i'm listening from a speaker to help not go crazy with only the right channel action

Devon E. Levins:

Really?! Interview too? Or just music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm
Stepchild:

All the music. Just the music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm

just music, Devon
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38pm

It follows digital download - music.disasterpeace.com...

Ike:

FM listeners can switch some radios to mono. That solves the problem for me. Stereo mode always has more static anyway.

On the app you can press the music note symbol in the upper-left corner and switch to a mono stream -- that might help.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42pm
chris:

thanks, Ike! didn't know that...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42pm
Stepchild:

Well, I'm hoping maybe they can fix something at the station. Mono from one channel, even if less distracting, is still just half the music...
Avatar 7:45pm
Ĩkє:

Indeed @SC. It's probably just the recording though... this happens sometimes. The recording might be out of phase (??).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:46pm
Stepchild:

Yay better!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:46pm
Mike East:

@Ike - I saw you mention that the other day and actually tried it this morning as an experiment, but there wasn't really any static to begin with so there wasn't any difference. Lucky to be in the fmu zone of Montclair...there are some real staticky areas for sure.

2nd channel just came back on!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:46pm
chris:

ah ha!
  7:46pm
spodiodi:

Ahhh
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:46pm

It was the station
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:47pm
chris:

yay! can we start over? :P

JakeGould:

FM mono is my thing also. I have two Sony radios that are like those Tivoli mono-speaker things; Sony ICF-M1000. Works great. Takes up no space. Got them at deep discount from a closeout place.
Avatar 7:50pm
ikє:

Oh yeah, @M.E., when I lived in Essex Co., I got great FM reception. S. Brooklyn though, always better in mono.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51pm
chris:

i love adventure time! i miss the excuse of having a young one to watch it, though...
Avatar 7:54pm
Ike:

I was away for a moment... how did A.T. come up? No excuse needed. Steven Universe is getting really good lately too, and for that you can always say, "um, I'm just watching it for Tom Scharpling's excellent voice work."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56pm
Mike East:

don't know Steven Universe, but Adventure Time is my jam. Its become my daughter's and my Friday night tradition to watch episodes while we eat our pizza. They gotta get more seasons up on Netflix...I've only seen 1 and 2.
And I agree, children not required to watch that one. Its brilliant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58pm
chris:

thanks for the words of encouragement! AT came up because Disasterpeace is writing some music for them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58pm
chris:

awesome show, Devon! thanks! and thanks to Disasterpeace, too!
Avatar 7:59pm
Ike:

WOW REALLY? Very cool! Go Disasterpeace!
  7:59pm
Mdurek:

really digging this crunchy darkness.
Avatar 8:00pm
Ike:

@M.E. probably costs too much... Netflix can't spend money on everything, in fact I wonder how they can afford what they've got given the monthly rates... and A.T. might be leaving soon, not adding more seasons. Just go to the illicit sites (keep Adblock on) that are easily googled, it gets even better after season 2.
