Hey there Irene.

Olivia did I just hear? She has a Sandy Denny vibe
Avatar 9:37pm
Van in DC:

Loved hearing her live last week, and also on the other show the next day

Sandy!!

Wow I'm so happy I wasn't five minutes later than I was...

Irene Trudel:

Hey Tome, redkayak, melinda, jon & Van. Great to have you all here tonight. Van, you're right, Olivia certainly was influenced by Sandy.
Avatar 9:44pm
Van in DC:

Plus she is on Nonesuch! Wow.
Avatar 9:47pm
Van in DC:

That "False Bride" reference last week by Olivia back to Sandy...wow I looked that up. Holy cow. Sandy's earliest appearance? And she was lauded big time as a talent that Alex Campbell I think it was hadn't seen in his entire career. Or something. Like, the Greatest Folk Singer Ever type of thing.
Avatar 9:50pm
Van in DC:

Wow what a set.

Andrew:

Van, you are responsible for me missing Irene's show last week since I went to hear Samantha Fish at the Birchmere instead. Wouldn't have known about her but for your comments some time back. But I listened to the archives later, so I didn't really miss out.

PJ:

Thank you for another lovely program, Irene

Hope you aren't getting the thing going around, Irene. Trouble has it, I know. I've had it the past week. Feeling much better now though.
  10:01pm
Andrew:

Van, she was a crowd-pleaser. Sales of albums and t-shirts were brisk afterwards. She was signing them and letting people take pictures of themselves with her. It's easy to imagine her getting too popular for the personal touch.
Avatar 10:05pm
Van in DC:

Glad to hear it. I waited justthistoolong to get tickets for me and a few friends. Literally, we watched the "almost sold out" dwindle to "sold out" right in front of our eyes.

But she is well grounded I think. Sharon Van Etten is HUGE now and well grounded and still greets fellow WFMU folks at her concerts afterwords. She's awesome.

Hi PJ, KP and Andrew! Nah, Van, it's just crappy allergies tickling my throat.

Mike, that 3rd album by Led Zep is really different from most of the others. Has a folky edge to a number of the tunes. It's maybe my favorite of theirs.

Always love the strings as well. Mr Walker next?

I liked the folky Zeppelin.

Thanks Jake! It's one of mine from Newport Folk Festival last year. It had been raining all day and the sun came out when Mavis Staples started to perform. An amazing moment!

Of course, that play and mention of Loudon Wainwright III gives me the perfect opening to shoehorn in a mention that LW3 was at WFMU just a few days ago, visiting Dave Hill. It was my privilege to lurk in the studio trying to be more quiet and invisible than a mouse (a fine trick for a 6'3" man of a certain bulk) and get a few photos as my excuse to attend a semiprivate concert.
