A-lien ... still looking for "subtext" ....

That film is weird. I want to like it, but it seems 1/2 done. Like a rough cut of something that needed a few more rounds of editing.

I'd say Harmony Korine, judging from his other films, does nothing without much purpose & intent... That considered, it's an odd film for me too; watched it three times & James Franco is still not scary, but Spring Breakers works as pure, lush visuals and gangsta silliness. ...

JakeGould:

Well, yeah. I agree on Harmony Korine’s style. Something about the film makes it only work as wallpaper for me; I can’t focus on it, but if it’s running I can turn to it every now and then and take a glimpse at some crazy world.

no song titles is pretty black metal brah

titles are given on tape case, with lyrics- so they cared enough to do that, but not enough to label the tape...that was my point. ...

Morning Wm.,
been away from the board awhile, didn't have much to say it seems.
Spring Breakers was to me the usual press hyperbole about a film that we've seen before, pushed up to the present. And I must say the buzz about Kames Franco is lost to me, I can't stand him in no film at all. The Girls did work and the sparse clothing, but I' d not watch that thing again soon.
  2:21am
Schlockmaster:

I did watch the new Mad Max, though, and thats a whole different thing: it was fun and over the top with no new ideas again, but done in a mood, that seems lost today, I really enjoyed it and will return to it on the home screen - I got quite sick from those damn 3D effects, seems I definitely get old now..

Wm.:

Agreed it's not great, but it's something, almost seems like an in-joke...maybe that was the point? I find it amusing anyway. J. Franco neither dazzles nor offends me, he's just "there," and almost comically miscast as "A-lien," but again, maybe that was the point. The film's neon colors are kind of otherworldly. ...

Gonna have Breakfeast niw - will return before I walk the Beagle, have fun, good show!

I really cannot watch CGI, it's gross—I vastly prefer models or stop-motion ...One exception being the South Korean film The Host- the CGI is exceptional in that one, but SK is the capital of that sort of thing.

I couldn't agree more Wm. CGI is horrible!

The Host is indeed great.

Those last 5 tracks - superlative sequence.

As you know I'm no fan of CGI either, but I like to watch action flics - I do renember the good old times when a Bond Movie was proud to not have any CGI, before the Brosban era. But today you don't get no suspense movie without them, so I do watch them. In CGI things what I find most compelling is the use of them in projects, where they don't have to be there at all, like Grand Budapest Hotel or that Scorcese thing in Paris - there CGI is used to emulate a cuddly like wellness yesterday, a fake kitch - I rather take those action flics...
  2:58am
Schlockmaster:

Whats funny is the camp appeal of older CGI, when its outdated, wich happens fast it gets a TV show style look like when you watch Xena, wartior princess.
Just try those "old" star wars movies, the new series, esoecualky the first and second, but be quick before Lucas updates those EFX.
