Live performance by Eszter Balint with Chris Cochrane

You might know Eszter Balint best as an actress, with key roles in last season's "Louie" on F/X and in Jim Jarmusch's film "Stranger Than Paradise" from a few years ago. But Balint has an alternate role as a songwriter and violinist, with several albums to her credit. Eszter's latest album, "Airless Midnight," has just been released and includes some masterful and provocative guitar work from Chris Cochrane, Marc Ribot, Dave Schramm, with singer/songwriter Sam Phillips on harmonies. Eszter Balint, along with guitarist Chris Cochrane, joined Irene for a live set.

Some people say there's too much violins on the radio, but I don't believe it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28pm

Ha ha, Peter! That would be sax and violins.

sounds great...does anyone know what kind of preamp is on that guitar?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55pm
Irene Trudel:

Which one? Chris plays through a Fender Princeton amp with efx pedals and Eszter through a Fender Twin Reverb (both new-ish amps).

jorj:

Not quite sure... the number prior to this one. Are they through microphones, or direct lines? Thanks!

Sun Ra played at Squat Theater 47 times between 1979 and 1982. Lots of performances were recorded. Some can be heard on the recent digital releases RA TO THE RESCUE, AURORA BOREALIS, and VOICE OF THE ETERNAL TOMORROW.

Oh random trivia that is sort of related to playlist. I was working on a website for Marc Ribot (community activist site for musicians) when I moved to NZ ten years ago. Site didn't stand the test of time, but NZ has for me.

That's OK, Ms. Trudel, we're typing while listening -- even some of us who are driving.

Darn, I can't shake this mental picture: "What's lovely as ivory?" makes me think of soap commercials. It's like the generation that can't hear Beethoven's 9th Symphony without hearing, "Good night, Chet."

Ben Mason! Great tune. Thanks, Irene.
